When I was about seven or eight, and after seeing The Little Mermaid, I totally loved merfolk. I thought the idea was so cool and if given a chance to become something other than human, a mermaid was it.
I still think the idea of merfolk is interesting, though, especially more along the lines of mer-something-other-than-fish. This is why I made mine a killer whale. Killer whales are cool. 
I had a dream a while ago about a merman and after I had it, I wanted to draw him so I guess this is a representation of him come about months later as this wasn't a planned pic.
I doodled this the other night and when I thought it could be decent I decided to finish it. In my dream, he had bright red hair but, I thought black would suit better because of the whole killer whale thing. He's rising to the water's surface and just enjoying the feel of the flow and currents of water. Must be so relaxing being a sea creature.

I love how you've sort of embodied the killer whale in the character...
Despite their name, killer whales are pretty gentle, and this guy just SEEMS very gentle and peaceful to me.

Wow, this is amazing!
I do have a question though. Since merfolk are usually half fish, they don't need to surface to breathe, but whales and dolphins are both mammals and they do need to rise to the surface to take in a breath. Would it be the same for dolphin and whale merfolk? I'm not trying to be rude or anything, you can answer however you like since it's your creation in a way, I'm just wondering.

wow ive never seen a orcha mermaid! thats so cool! only problem i see is his head looks a little small for his body.. but then again when u have alot of muscles your head looks pretty small XD i dont know but i love your idea!

wow.. I remember a time when I -loved- the ocean and all things related. I even wanted to be a marine biologist. but for some reason these past few years I've almost grown a phoia of the ocean (though I've always hated deep dark water >,< ).. I have nightmares allot that consist of things that shouldn't be scary, like whales ;_;.. well ususlaly anything that is big..
but I know that if I had a guy like that with me, I would be ok. mind if I borrow him??

THis is a WONDERFUL creation, capsicum! ^^ I've never thought of having merpeople that were of other species than fish. I guess you could call this the oceanic equivalent of a centaur. Truly beautiful!! ^____^
