Description Umbrella cockatoo... the yellow in his feathers has been intensified to contrast with the purple in the background (it's much more subtle in real life.) One in a series of paintings I'm doing for a parrot sanctuary in return for the boarding of my bratty patagonian conure until I can find a place to live that will tolerate her.

Ink and watercolor.

umbrella cockatoos so win.
I've gotten into arguments about whether or not birds can smile, and i think your picture proves my argument that they most certainly can.

Hm, the complimentary colours are very pleasing to the eye indeed.
This makes me think of the cockatoo my mother used to have when I was very young. "Wolffie" was his name and he was persnickety as could be about anything and everything... and he made sure you knew it.
Very brash creatures, these cockatoos. I think you show that in the personality of this piece very well. She looks like she's leaning into the scene saying, "HEY! I'm right here! Pay attention to me!".

Ooh, how beautiful! Absolutely awe-inspiring with the use of colors, and depicting precisely where shadow meets light. Looks like a happy 'Too. I have a friend in Canada who owns an Umbrella Cockatoo, named Lacey, and she's just incredibly adorable. From what I've seen and heard, Lacey doesn't bite (people and herself), screetch, or any of that. She behaves well, considering that she is 8 and raised by previously good owners. I even remember going to a bird aviary, and I saw 'Toos that unfortunately bite people, screetch loudly, and pluck out their own feathers. It's so sad. Wish I could kidnap them all and spoil them rotten, hehe.. but 'Toos require all of one's attention; they're like little demanding human kids.

I just love birds, and always wanted one for myself, but I don't have the kind of time to be with them all day; they'd get lonely and do the same above. Anyway, enough about that. Wonderful work here. I'll watch ya. You color so well with your artwork!

You got another fantasticc birdie piccie in there! The subject's certainly got the cockatoo spirit in him, the pose an the expression are just the right! Fine work with the feathers too, they look so soft and nice. I've always had huge trouble drawing the cockatoo crest feathers, but you seem to be an expert on that field too.

Haha! This looks just like my umbrella cockatoo Abigale! She's the cutest little snugglebug (Note: ONLY time I'll say that on a public forum, EVER.) but she's afraid of hats. Don't know why.

Anyway, gorgeous watercolor work!

Stunning! Reminds me of my sis's sulphur crested cockatoo that had half a beak missing... We'd say to Monty: "Play angel play angel!" and he'd through his head back and scream "Aaaaaaaah".

Fluffilicious. The control on your watercolor's great, and lends the most perfect air of weightlessness to this bird. Ah yep.

just a note, cockatoo's crests are a bit different to that... but you could get away with calling it a little corrella cause they have crests a bit like that its really good tho i love it

This is a very lively portrait! Gorgeous, I'm sure the sanctuary loves them all. Like the contrast of purple and yellow, somehow always looks good. So alive and playful!

Very nice! I especially like the expression. You gave life to the eyes and animated the entire picture that way instead of just being a flat picture.
