Cheers. John Constantine is from my part of the world and I could just see this being his reaction to that thing.

Awesome! The colours and lighting look great. I like that green shadow on his back. Any Constantine fanart is cool by me as well!

Cheers, bud. I'm not all that up on the character but I'd like to change that. Gonna hit amazon sooner or later.
Glad you like it. This one was a bit of a wrestle.

I really like Hellboy. I found a lot of comics at the library where I was living actually. The earliest ones are a bit difficult to read at times, but it's always a bit of a novelty to read a comic where the protagonist is not a "hero" by any stretch of the imagination.

Hellboy or Hellblazer? Ha. I like the appeal of reading a surreal comic featuring a Scouser.

Whoops. I meant Hellblazer. I have just been going Hellboy crazy lately.
And, that's a damned good description of the comic. It should probably go in the list of quotes on one of the graphic novels.

This is one of those pen-down, give-up, why-am-I-bothering types of image - yeah, YOU know the ones. Pure distilled badarsery.
Loving the palette on this one; in terms of the greens it would have been so easy to go over the top with flourescents and neons. The Cthulhu-esuqe chappie really looks as though he's been the bottom of an ocean for a few hundred years.

CarlPearce In reply to DarkJimbo [2013-03-18 16:57:46 +0000 UTC]
You know, I never see them and think "pen down". I think "Oh yeah? We'll see about that...".
Cheers, though, bud. At first the bugger was luminescent green and it wasn't sitting right with me. So I thought about algae and rock-slime and added an nice orange and purple filter over it. Highlighted the veins with a nice sickly pink to bounce out and got to a balance I'm not too niffed off with. I wanted to keep some of that deep-sea luminescence though, so added the green bio-glow that you see on deep sea squid and octopi.
He's sparkly like the gay vampires in Twiglet*.
*(Yes, I meant to say 'Twiglet' and not 'Twilight'.)

I literally just found out about the 'sparkle' thing this weekend. At first I didn't believe it. Then I didn't know whether to laugh or weep or have a migraine. I just... I don't... URGHGH.

Drawing it was. But I got a bit lost colouring it. It just wouldn't come to me.
I kinda gave up on the background after having him against sunsets at a beach, two deserted roads, looking over the L.A. basin and a palm-lined road into the mountains.
They were all too distracting and I kept coming back to something plain and neutral.

Makes sense with how heavy the coloring and detailing are on the main picture. Feel like it'd be hard to keep the same focus on the piece with a background cluttering the image.

Poor Casper . . . he's just trying to make friends.
Brilliant work, although if I were John Constatine, I'd be wiping all that slime off me from Cthulu.

Think he'll need to do a runner first.
Casper is a little shit. I always hated his drippy arse face as a kid.

more appropriately the term would be a "star spawn"
Cthulhu is a particular individual creature....
Star Spawn look like Cthulhu but are significantly smaller...house sized rather than island size...
