Amara is known as a graceful copy of her sister. Where Zira is loud and brash, Amara is cold and calculating. She is loyal completely to her sister, following her back to the Outlands when the news breaks that there has been a suspected regicide, and Zira is pinned as the culprit. In the Outlands, Amara serves as Zira's right-hand and the trainer of her army. Her feelings on any subjects are not outwardly projected, but secretly Amara grieves the lioness her sister used to be, and longs to return her pridesisters to the plentiful Pridelands.

Upon returning to the Pridelands, Amara has little trouble stepping away from a leadership role among the Outlanders and ceding to her niece Vitani . She is a dutiful huntress, but other than that she spends her time away from the pride at large, sunning or exercising alone. Her cold personality eludes the Pridelanders, so she tends to only interact with her daughter and close pridesisters. It is Amara's opinion that, in the end, the safety of her pride outweighed her loyalty to her sister. There was little chance of redemption for Zira, so Amara sees her sister's death, ultimately, as a mercy.
