This captures a very difficult subject very well. I'll be honest: I don't often like the hyphens mid-word. Here, you use them to good advantage, tying the piece together beautifully well. Congratulations on the well-deserved DD. :

I'm not a fan either, they break any sort of rhythm you could possibly establish. That said, they are quite useful for breaking established rhythm and, hopefully, creating a schism that can be used to show a moment through the medium of a poem.
