Photography means "writing with light".
I don't think I can really write with light. More likely, I'm trying to scribble something.

In my scribbling, I love playing not only with lights, but also with shadows.
I do love light: it traces shapes, defining clear lines and outlines. Light "creates" colours, the powerful contrasts and the soft gradiations.
But at the same time, I love the hinting shadows, the concealing darkness.
They're complementary of course, no shadow can exist without light; still, I've noticed that shadows often play a great role in the shots I prefer-not only the ones I take, but the ones of other artists I love.

I was wondering why my preferences go to what is not fully visible, or that's just something "unreal" cast by something real.
Maybe the reason is that, in my mind, the light defines, puts boundaries - the shadow suggests, reveals unlimited possibilities.
And I love the undefined and intimate world of the imagination.

Thanks to for helping me with the postprod

don`t mind me, don`t take it too seriously please, it is only my personal feelings about this photo - I can be wrong
eye contact is good, but a little bit too dark - second eye should be visible, at least contour plus a reflection, rest could be as dark as it is, maybe it is about 2 stops from darkness, about 1/15s with same f/9. your signature distracts me a little from the visible eye. all composition is unbalanced - with darkness on one side and light on other - if brighter side had some more to tell (more texture? any object?) it could be better

did you tried to set free your hair to this photo? it could be interesting

Oh my, don't worry, I love to receive complex and honest opinions!
And now, a honest answer. (Maybe a little long)
The main aim of the shot was testing the lamp and the soft light. As you can imagine, I produced several shots, and I wasn't putting a real effort to create something.
When I studied the results, however, I loved this shot, mainly because I felt that it could represent a little of my inner self, my feelings toward the photography and my love for the shadows.

I'm divided in two - the dark half is the most concealed part of me, what goes beyond ratio and boundaries... and I feel it's the greatest part of me. Dunno about the other eye, maybe you're right, but I feel that showing it is like making more visibile to others something that is just not real and sort of "private"(imagination, I mean)
About the composition, I thought that the contrast between my shape and the one of the lamp can create a juxtaposition of volumes and textures, with a little space in the middle to give "breath".
Last but not least, about the texture and the object... I think that an object don't fit at all because of the meaning of the shot. Maybe other textures... but I don't have a clue XD
And my curly hair were and still are a little messy. ^^"
You're right about the watermark, I always think I need to resize it but I always forget to do it ._.

Thanks again for spending your time commenting (and for reading this looooooooooong answer too )

curly hair is a good object to photograph give it a try next time please - it could be nice
if I understand what you tell me about this division, two sides of your personality - even in that way your secret side sometimes is seen, am I right? a blink in your eye could give watcher more curiosity about this other side - like: "I like to know unknown, show me more than only a bit..."
have a nice day!

Yes, but only when they want to be photographed..
Sometimes, often in photography. Well, I think that is a very subjective matter, and none of us is right or wrong. Next time I'll pay more attention to these details

This is very, very good IMHO - great pose and contact with the model, love the few locks of hair and the staged soft colors to the right. However - I do find your huge signature quite distractingly placed

Since I'm both the author and the model, thanks a lot!
The signature was difficult to place, I couldn't find a place less disturbing... maybe I'll resize it ^^"

Thank you .. just like you I love photography .. this is the only way I can get my thoughts out in a meaningful way ... I have a huge collection of work that I couldn't upload because of time constraints as I am a software engineer by profession and always stuck with office work
