Recently adopted this crazy pone from and I really wanted to get out my ideas for her, because I have a lot!

I've been wanting to round out the Dislestia brood and I have made between the two of us with an alicorn -- since her OC Belle et Bete is a full-blooded draconequus while Gliese is a half-draconequus -- so when I saw the original design, inspiration struck. What if she wasn't born, but created by Discord? And thus this idea came to me. So here it is!

Name - Menagerie
Breed - Magical Construct (she won't really age as much as gradually "fade"; her physical body will simply turn to magical dust as she loses power. She doesn't really need to eat or sleep, but she does because her body "remembers" having to do those things)
Gender - Female
Sexuality and Relationship Status - Pansexual and single.
Residence - Canterlot
Special Talent - I'm debating her either being a blankflank or having a hideous mash-up of the Elements of Harmony symbols. Her talent is literally FRIENDSHIP. But we'll get to that in a moment.
Likes - Friends, social gatherings, attention, chocolate, baking, cuddles, praise
Dislikes - loneliness, solitude, criticism, Twilight (she 'remembers' being destroyed by Twilight on some level and avoids her because of that), veggies
Voice Actor - Amy Poehler
Personality - She's affectionate, she loves to have fun, and she wants to make everypony feel happy! The problem? Menagerie has no sense of boundaries, no ability to pick up on when she's pushing things too far, very little self-control, and she has next to nothing in terms of critical thinking skills. She views the making of friends as her life's purpose and getting incredibly upset if she's rejected, to the point of throwing awful screaming tantrums.

Menagerie was brought forth as something of an echo of one of the Pinkie clones, though she was patched with a few bits and pieces from each of the six girls. Pinkie's method of making people happy -- laughter -- tends to manifest itself the most strongly because of that. Sometimes this means learning some great jokes or getting in a tickle fight. Others, it means her laughing at a totally inappropriate time and not understanding why it's not acceptable behavior.

She wants to be the one that solves all the problems her friends have, and doesn't seem to realize when she's being used or manipulated. Being of a very emotionally immature temperament, she takes on far more than she can handle and often gets frustrated about not being able to figure out how to please everyone.

History - Menagerie was created back when Discord was still adjusting to the whole "being on the side of good" thing, and the fact he actually had a best friend. At first, everything was going fine! Fluttershy wrote to him all the time to tell him about her and her friends' adventures (and he had to read the friendship reports under the instruction of Celestia), and he was getting the hang of exercising some level of self control in using his powers. Things naturally go screwy when he's around, even if he's not actively concentrating on messing things up, so it was an incredibly difficult feat to pull off.

But then Princess Twilight was crowned, and suddenly the Elements of Harmony aren't just the little Ponyville girls anymore. They had duties to Equestria, to the world. They were a symbol of what the nation stood for, and were often sent overseas to meet as ambassadors to the other kingdoms. Fluttershy wrote less, because she simply didn't have the time. So that left Discord in something of a rough spot, given how bad his social skills were. He and Celestia were at least civil with one another at that point, but he didn't know if she considered him her friend or not and she kind of drove him batty anyway, and Luna herself was trying to become more involved in the affairs of Equestria and repatching her image after thousands of years of legends and hearsay, so it left him alone in a world that was completely different from the one he used to know, full of ponies who hated him on principle.

The idea to create Menagerie came when Pinkie Pie was spending some time with him, and happened to mention the Mirror Pool incident in her strange, rambling way. Discord hadn't actually heard of it before -- it had been created after he was sealed away by a vain unicorn who longed for another to match his intellectual capabilities -- so after doing a bit of digging. As in. Literally digging since it was sealed up, he managed to uncover it. And an idea took shape.

Discord can't spontaneously create life. At least, nothing stable enough to exist for more than a few seconds (Screwball isn't his daughter or even related to him at all in my headcanon). But he can definitely manipulate the magic around him into what he wants it to be. And he got the idea to take a little bit of the magical essence of the six Elements (sneakily, of course) to create the ultimate friend for himself. Obviously this was a brilliant plan and he patted himself on the back for being such a revolutionary mind.

So yeah it backfired. Not immediately. Menagerie seemed like the perfect friend for him given her love of his favorite thing in the world: laughter. They had a jolly old time together causing innocent mischief and coming up with the strangest games to play. But unfortunately, Discord is very difficult to keep interested, and he started to get bored with his creation. Menagerie didn't really make him feel the same way Fluttershy did; she didn't seem to really understand him or to want to know about his thoughts. It wasn't a friendship as much as just some dumb fun, but he could do that just fine on his own anyway. Also she tended to be really needy without giving much back, and it got super annoying. Discord's attempt to distract himself from his friend's absence just made him more and more aware of it, and he actually started to get genuinely unhappy after a while.

Menagerie simply didn't understand why Discord wasn't as fun to be around as he used to be, or why the other ponies in the castle wouldn't play games with her. Being the incarnation of the energy of friendship, slowly she began to change. Her happiness became anger and loneliness, and her laughter went silent. She changed, as in, physically became more and more twisted. The final straw was when she tried too hard to get Discord's attention and he snapped at her that he didn't want to be her friend and that making her was a mistake.

She did not take the news well.

Instead of being an innocent little avatar of friendship, she became a horrible monster of hatred. She damn near destroyed Canterlot castle in her anger, and naturally the Elements were called in to put her down. I'm not sure on the ending, though, if the Elements manage to fix what was wrong with her or if Discord steps in and protects her from the blast because hell, it blew up Sombra and it turned him to stone. He didn't want to know what it would do to her when it touched her.

He starts turning to stone again before Fluttershy breaks the connection and runs to him, terrified she hurt him. I think seeing Discord protecting her and actually CARING about her life, and how Fluttershy is so concerned with Discord would calm her rage and make her turn back to normal. Celestia makes the decision to take Menagerie under her wing and teach her to control her magic. It's powerful and potentially dangerous, but she can tell that just as Luna and Discord deserved a chance to prove there was goodness in them, so did Menagerie.
