Description It's been a while since I've uploaded anything. I haven't had the motivation to start on anything major.

This cup was drawn by eye in just over three hours, as an assignment for my drawing class. It is no where as detailed as my car drawings, and the shading is very rough.

I tried two point perspective, but I couldn't seem to get the top rim right. The shadow was a bit complex, so I simplified it. The specular on the surface of the water was insanely complex, so I bullshitted it.

I have other drawings from class, but they suck too much to upload.

PS: The more I stare at this, the more apparent the mistakes become (as with all of my drawings). It doesn't look good through my eyes anymore.

This is soooo cool. I really thought it was a photo at first.
I just have a question. What did you use to draw with?

Thanks.

Everything was done in graphite. I used an ordinary HB pencil, a 4B pencil, a kneaded eraser, several pieces of paper towel, and a tortillon.

Thanks man. I'm glad the my technique worked.

I'm taking Taplin for Drawing now. I'm not taking AP art, this is just a for-fun class. It's kinda funny how everyone in there sucks really badly, and I'm overdoing all of my assignments. Taplin is also letting me stray from the course material to study from my own PDFs.

Yeah, Taplin's drawing is a beginner's class. I took it in my Freshman year, it was pretty fun though. Are you planning to major in art when you get to college? Or did you want to become an architect?

Art is just a hobby for me. Mechanical Engineering is what's going to get me money. lol

Though I'll probably take a few art classes for an art certificate.

I thought so... but honestly though, you have the potential to become a great illustrator Then again, there's nothing stopping you from doing that as a hobby either. Good luck bro!

Awesome, something new from you!
I'm liking the contrast, you really captured the feeling of a metal spoon underwater. You mentioned how you had to simplify some details, but if you squint down at it, I'm sure you won't even be able to see those details. Just keep squinting and get the big shapes, that's what my art teachers tell me everyday xD...
Which class was this for?

Really nice dude, I don't think it needs to be more detailed,
plus don't always compare it to the reference photo, for I (the viewer) will not know the difference.
Why did you need a 2-point perspective for this though, I wonder? +the top rim looks good enough to me, perhaps the bottom one isn't round enough.
Now that we talking about perspective, the rim is closer to your 'horizon' so it will be flatter than the bottom. In other words, the bottom is very round while the top isn't necessarily (you did the top very well I think). Those are my thoughts, don't take it as me trying to be smart.

The water surface, spoon and shadows are really nice, too

ps please do upload more drawings from class, I'm sure they won't suck

My viewpoint was right next to the cup from above, so I thought that applying some perspective rules would help with rim and base placement. There is a lot of foreshortening, and in reality the rim is larger than the base. The line work was very awkward, hence the slightly deformed bottom and top. I couldn't transition the left side of the cup to the bottom, as you can see.

And thanks for taking the time to comment! At the moment, all of my other drawings are rough sketches, so I won't uploading anything just yet. But I'll try to make something good in a week or so.

Apparently I mixed the words rim and base
It musnt't have been easy I understand, but that's what practices/practicing is for isn't it
