Description Fallout: Equestria
Velvet's Remedy

Two weeks in the wasteland have not been kind to Velvet Remedy, who would rather be bandaging wounds than causing them. Pushed to the limit, she crosses her ethical boundaries to protect her friends.

Read the story, Fallout: Equestria! (My Little Pony / Fallout crossover; grimdark & very good)

I realize that some of you may not like the way the shotgun is belt-fed. Some combat shotguns really are belt-fed, and I didn't feel like using a drum-loading model, so I really don't care about this criticism.

It would appear the Nexus site is having some eh... issues regarding an earlier upload of mine. I'll send you the link once everything is sorted out.

Was this part of a particular scene from the story or did you kind of just put this together?

Silver out!

It's many story elements put together, and doesn't exactly represent one part of the book. It's mostly supposed to be just before Velvet meets Pyrelight, though.

Knowing you don't care, I'm pretty sure the combat shotgun is FO:E was meant to be based off of the one from Fallout 3 and New Vegas. But whatever.

What the heck happened to the world in Fallout Equestria? What caused the conflict? What did the Mane Cast do and how did they failed? What happened to them and the Princesses?

Read the book to find out!

But to give a quick overview without too many spoilers, rising international tensions between the zebra nation and Equestria over vital natural resources came to a head very quickly. What started as border skirmishes devolved into full-on war through an unfortunate series of "good intentions gone bad". The Mane Cast were tasked with running various parts of the government (for example, Fluttershy's Ministry of Peace), but only some of the Mane Cast were suited to that sort of high-level responsibility. Without staying close to each other like they had been before, the Magic of Friendship was not able to keep things cohesive enough.

That's all a bit simplified, as it's a somewhat complex story. I'd rather not reveal the final fates of the Mane Six and the princesses, because it's rather spoilerish and their ends are all rather masterfully revealed. Fallout: Equestria takes place about 210 years after the series, so you didn't expect everyone to still be alive, right?

As for the glimpse of the world that we see in this particular scene, the world has been ravaged by "Megaspells", which are as close as you can get to nuclear fallout in a My Little Pony universe. If you've played the Fallout games, you'll know that this isn't regular radiation we're talking about, but freaky 1950's pulp comic radiation--the type that can turn spiders into towering monstrosities, and cause you to grow an extra tentacle if you're not wary.

Hope that answers some of your questions!

i really like this style
how do you put designs like that poster?
that's what i really want to learn in photoshop and/or illustrator
reminds me of this really good artist rafael valencia/digitaladdict
i like the elements of realism, to me it beats the millions of vector linearts out there by far

Thanks a lot!

The technical details: I first drew the poster by itself in Adobe Illustrator, as a normal vector illustration:
[link]

Then I imported it into Photoshop and overlaid a nice crumpled texture paper I found onto it with very low opacity.

The bulk of this image here is normal painting style, starting from a sketch and working my way up through colors and then the small details. A nice thing about smart objects in later versions of Photoshop is that you can place them on the canvas and stretch them for perspective reasons. That's what I did with the poster, then added a layer on top of it, set it as a layer mask, mode multiply, and drew the shading on it until it more or less looked like it belonged on the wall.

I started the foreground dirt floor in a similar way: I prepared the dirt/earth texture and then imported it as a smart object and stretched it to match perspective.

There are quite a few things I wish I had done differently, but that's about the bulk of it. Thanks again!

Actually this kinda of reminds me of things going on here in our world, especially with the poster tying in with the rest of the image... >_>

The picture itself is wonderful, I'm a sucker for interesting lighting.
