I present you: The dude being a carefree person, for once.
"To say it was a perfect day wasn't far from the truth for Jim. Granted, he hated the weather, Rovie was an awfully disastrous human being who made a lot of people laugh and Dagna... was a sweet girl. The day their class was schedule was hot, humid and honest to god awful at the moment it started, but he honestly enjoyed the event from start to finish, meeting new people and seeing a few friendly faces he already met before. While warming up Jim often found himself thinking about how much he actually enjoyed himself those few days and that he, incredibly, wasn't nervous at all; he was too exhausted with the heath to even think about being nervous and Kamelot seemed to be just... enjoying herself and not doubting every move thanks to his nerves. It was so far perfect.
The staff let him enter to the arena a few seconds before the other rider finished his course and they - Kamelot and him - calmly walked around, mentally checking the course one last time, watching the pair flying over the last jumps and the crowd cheering as they finished and the result was announced through the speakers. A moment passed and his mare's name - and his, of course - was announced on the same way. He took a moment to look around and smiled. It was one of those exhilarating moments you rarely seemed to grasp and enjoy, Jim though; the calm seconds before you started, tension slowly building to tun into action as best as you could. He took a last look to Kamelot, who in turn was looking around and he couldn't help but think about how much he loved her. Maybe she wasn't the most exciting horse to watch around the arena - even if she was, in his eyes, the prettiest black mare around the place - but it was such an exciting thing for him to get her to another continent, in an advanced class and compete. She was just. perfect for him.
The bell ringed and Jim immediately got out of his thoughts, telling the mare to go forward and Kamelot effectively jumping into action at a fast but steady canter towards the first jump. It always felt as if she asked permission to proceed and how to proceed. Oh, how he loved her personality... eager to please and too insecure to lead. He took the distance and heard distantly Kamelot taking a breath as she took off. As they landed, he pushed her a bit more to cover more terrain and she responded immediately.
He loved her, with all his heart. After that last thought, his mind went quiet and continued, together, to sort the obstacles around them.
He was for once, truly happy."
