With capes you'd figure there has to be a lot of tripping related face plants to the ground, yes? No? Maybe? Only if they have to perform a pirouette?

Look, Edna Mode warned people about the dangers of capes, if they refuse to listen it is their own fault. And also, if it is dropped on him, is it is a heavy as when dropped on an unworthy person?

Hmmm... I don't know, I would assume it would have some weight for him but probably not as much, but coupled with an injury to the toeses it might be just as painful while not causing the same level of injury.
Additionally Thor probably has more resistance to it then say a human. In Thor, Thor puts it on Loki, and he's able to breath against it, but not move it, and didn't suffocate. Thor would be stronger the Loki, I think.
In case of user error, maybe there's a safety-feature?

Although in mortal form he proved no match for a tazer, but the suddenly no longer God might have been the factor.
I guess he could also call it back to him before it hit his foot too, or it probably is similar to when we stub or toes or drop a book on them. I really don't know.
But does dropping it make him unworthy of the power? Would he have to wait until Steve lifted it or something?

All bets are off when he's mortal for sure.
I think he could recall it but he'd have to have the reaction time, which might not always be there. Like sometimes you catch the thing you dropped in time, sometimes it hits the floor.
He'd probably have to do more to make himself unworthy, like use it as a door stop.
