I like the choice of giving the biggest role to the stairs with that focus in fact.
The banister on the right leads the eye towards the people walking who contrast with the very static appearance of the stair.

Well done.

woah!!! my 'rents have a poster of these stairs in their bedroom. i think your shot is better, and i've always loved that poster. amazing use of b/w. nice leading lines, and the placement of the railing (off center) is perfect.

Get them a nice 20x30" print

I wasn't aware there were posters of this staircase available! I guess it is an architectural high point of modern London though...

makes me feel like... i wanna run up the stairs after them

im glad you said focus was intended, i was wondering about that

Having the focus on the people would make them the point of the image...yet with the focus on the stairs, they become a part of the background. They're there...but not. The issue then becomes that of the texture and solidarity of the stairs, with life passing over them...

The lighting works very well, looks like a scene right out of a 1940s French film i thinks - although the people are a little out of place for that.

Bit hard to find some authentic people around though...but yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I'd have loved to have got some typical 'French' people there.

deviation when you've done the border... i told you. stairs baby, stairs!! as for constructive comments... i love that the people are out of focus... it gives the image, the impression of inhabitation, with out the figures being the focus... it's all about the stairs!! i can't quite decide if i feel the handrail should hit the corner of the image, if you understand me, but it think it's probably 90% personal taste on that point. i also think the texture of the stone is much better in black and white, even though i know it's digital and could just as easily have been purple!!... i hope i've mixed something helpful into my usual randomness...

And done ...how did I know you'd like the stairs?

I tried cropping it, and the handrail in the corner didn't quite work - felt a little too contrived to work properly with a 'street' shot.

I love black and white, a lot. Purple? No way!

ummm 'cos i left messages going... stairs baby, stairs!!? yeah, the border finishes it off nicely..

glad you invesigated the crop, it was just an idea, you know what i'm like!

the purple was the point that you can't trust digital
