Let me start by saying it is such a pleasure working with such a wonderful artist on such a beautiful piece. This is one of my absolute favorites in his gallery and I can’t wait to review it.
What I like about this piece:
I really like the 2/3rds look of the shot with the railroad tracks being the main focus of the photograph. The curve of the track leads your eye to edge of the picture, making you think “what could be over there? Why and where are we being lead?” It gives an air of curiosity to the work that I just love. The railroad’s rusted look also fits in very well with the overall color of the surrounding foliage. It’s a lovely fall look, with all the reds and oranges, with the small hints of green giving the work a bit of a three-dimensional pop. I also love the contrasting blues sky with the beautiful cloud cover. Because of the clouds, the focus is kept in the lower 2/3rds of the work, which is a big plus for this piece. But the blue also draws delayed attention that makes you feel that three-dimensional pop again; making you feel as though you are really there. But the best thing about this piece is that all the subtle lines lead you back to where the railroad is leading you, completing a circle of involvement that most if not all photographs should have.
Things I think could be improved:
I really like this work, and it’s hard to say what could be done to improve it. However, I will say that the lighting seems a bit off. Not enough to ruin the piece, it’s only slightly noticeable. The only other thing I’m noticing is the angle that the picture was taken. It seems a little too linear, so if the shot was taken from a taller spot, or a shorter upturned angle I think it would have been slightly more interesting. But these things are so minor that they should just be disregarded.
Final thoughts:
This is a fantastic photo that I return to again and again. There are very few flaws, and the piece captures the viewer in a surreal way, making you feel as though you were there; compelled to follow the tracks to where ever they lead. Again, this is a wonderful photo, and I can’t wait to see more amazing work from you in the future.
