Description
After doing so many canine portraits I needed to take a quick break and do a fantasy piece. This is the first mermaid I've ever done.Water Color on 9x12 Arches 140 lbs hot press water color paper.

Very beautiful pose. I love the foreshortening on her arm. Great technique with the water color; I like all the different textures. Nice job on it!

It was very refreshing to do something other than a canine portrait. I do love drawing/painting dogs and horses, but those pieces don't give me the creative freedom fantasy pieces do.

Wow...thats an amazing statement: "...I'm getting very close to where I want to be with my work." The confidence there really struck me and I hope I can say that same thing someday!

Well, that statement was made two years ago and I've had a stroke since then. So now I can say I'm once again getting very close to where I want to be with my work - LOL! Of course that was the last fantasy piece I've done. Have been busy, busy, busy doing pretty much nothing but Border Collies getting ready for our National Specialty show in the fall. About ready for another fantasy break though!

Yep, an honest to God blood clot induced stroke! And would you believe that it happened on my birthday no less?!!! I'm not that old so that was big shocker for me! Anyway, I was incredibly lucky - very mild and I recovered incredibly fast. The piece in my gallery called Piebald Pony was done just 22 days post-stroke. Blew my doctors away - LOL!

Thats what I was thinking - that you are waaaay to young to be having a stroke! Soooo happy to hear you had such a swift recovery and were able to get right back into your amazing artwork - its an inspiration!! ^_^

I love how you make most of your fantasy woman more 'matured looking' than they usually are stereotyped as.
I see these people drawing mermaids and faeries an other mythical woman as young 17-22 year old girls, but I enjoy something like these much much more.
Anyways, other than that, lovely drawing, and amazing pose. Brings a lot of life and feel to the drawing.
