✦
Eiditic Memory
Since childhood, Claude has had an impeccable memory, especially with visuals. The memories of people's appearances, combined with being able to feel their faces, was helpful in identifying others during their period of blindness, as did visual memories of unchanging landscapes with getting around their hometown. Now, it's a helpful asset in field work, allowing them to memorize the content of covert messages when needing to relay them and whatnot.
✦
Kung-Fu [南派螳螂 /
Southern Mantis Style]
✧
10+ years experience training under a Hakka master from rural Fujian, China. He spoke nearly no French, so their communication was complicated beyond the usual master/pupil relationship-- especially when Claude returns to train while blind.
✧ Relies more on speed, with quick and quantitative strikes, often followed by swiftly falling back and dodging any retaliation.
INVENTORY
✦
Mobile Communicator/Gaming Holo-Device
When deactivated, appears as a small square with rounded edges, covered in strategically placed joysticks, buttons, and sound input+output slits. But upon being turned on, the device splits in half from the middle, project on a full-color+touch compatible hologram (comparable in size+shape to a PSP). Provides the function of a communication device, in addition to an endless ocean of downloadable utility and gaming/entertainment applications for everything you can think of. Claude is personally a fan of Japanese/Korean anime style games, and is easily swept up in spending their money on those tricky microtransactions...
✦
Wireless Recharge Widget
[for Eyes]
Everything electronic must receive a charge somehow, right? For Claude's fully cybernetic eyes, they own (more than one copy of, technically) a small device, also about the dimensions of an iPhone, that provide a non-intrusive, wireless method of recharging the 'battery' mechanism that powers their eyes' function for about a week between each charge. This wireless device is charged, itself, through more traditional means-- whatever those may be during the era when this story is set-- but all that Claude must do to ensure their eyes never run out of charge and shut their vision down to total darkness is (most often) sleep with their head within several feet of one of the widgets (usually by slipping it in their pillowcase) a few times a week). However, they always carry a spare battery on their person, in whatever bag they've got, because they don't want to be caught off-guard and suddenly disabled on a risky solo mission.
✧
WEAPON PACK
//
✦ 2 meters of wire
✦ Lock-pick
✦ Standard Contacts [not too useful to Claude]
✦ Wireless Communication Ear Piece
✦ 2 Daggers
✦1 Pistol + Silencer
✧
PERSONALITY
//
+ clever
+ charismatic
+ adaptive
+ adventurous
+ kindhearted
= enigmatic
= casual
= dreamer
- reckless
- secretive/untrusting
- can take serious situations too lightly (coping mechanism)
- impulsive
- sometimes intrusive upon others' personal space
BACKGROUND
Brief Summary:
An only child born in Annecy, FR to overprotective parents-- a french mom and a half-korean dad with blood ties to a major tech company in his homeland-- Claude has always been adventurous and intrepid. As they hit their teens, they developed signs of a recessive genetic disease-- not having manifested in any of their family since their great-grandmother-- that causes their vision to slowly fail, and lives blind for 2 years, but decides to make the best of it and work on honing their other senses and being a better person instead of moping. Eventually, they become a candidate for cybernetic eye implants, and undergo a risky eye+brain surgery, but to great avail, giving them nearly superhuman vision. After high school, they attend college in the US, and receive an enigmatic letter + plane ticket from Nemico (who has been watching them for a few years and monitoring their talents) asking to recruit them-- and ultimately throws away their chances at grad school to go to Lenix Island and become a field agent.
An only child born into a somewhat wealthy family, Sin-Hyo Bellamy-- as their official name read, though nobody called them their Korean moniker in their native-born France, where they were instead dubbed "Claude"-- has always been an active child. They spent the good majority of their early childhood attempting to elude the watchful gaze and barriers of their overprotective parents'-- their mother a secretary-turned- stay home mother, and their father the great-nephew of a massive Korean tech company, which earned him both high standings in business, and a busy schedule-- attempts to cushion their world, and 'protect' the youngest Bellamy from the world around them, though they rarely succeeded with such a cunning little escape artist as their kid. They were constantly getting into trouble of all sorts, from large scrapes, to a broken limb here and there, it meant little to Claude, as long as there was a good adventure to be had.
As a young child, Claude followed a long-running family tradition of practicing tae kwon do-- something their family hoped would help Claude calm, find their center, and learn to protect themself in case one of their increasingly intrepid adventures took a turn for the worse. To the Bellamys' slight disappointment, Claude always seemed too eager to strike for a sport that was based in self-defense, technique drills, and sparring, despite Claude's love for martial arts. After a bit of searching, they found a small hole-in-the-wall kung fu daochang [dojo] where an old, master Laoshi ['sensei'] taught Southern Mantis style wushu, which had the higher intensity training and close hand-to-hand physical combat that Claude so craved. Claude focused equally hard on their studies in both school and kung fu, and they began spending most every moment they weren't discovering new things taking comfort in the soothing familiarity of their kungfu daochang.
But the comfortable laurels Claude had rested on were soon to be torn out from beneath them. As Claude grew into adolescence, their vision began to grow somewhat hazy, comparable in sensation to that of someone with cataracts. It began with glasses. To tell the truth, Claude hated wearing glasses-- they got in the way of crawling through small spaces, and looking down from high places-- plus, they just looked dorky. When the glasses no longer seemed to help at all, Claude felt a black hole of suffocating anxiety. Their photographic memory got them around their house, up and down the stairs and around the canals of their hometown of Annecy, but as time passed, they could rarely leave home without someone to help them around.
Then came the day they woke up, completely blind to all but light and shades of shapes. Upon being rushed to the clinic, Vale and their parents were told that they had a sort of irreversable disease of juvenile macular degeneration. Claude's mother, having wept steadily since before the news was handed down, finally remarked that her own grandmother was blind for as long as she'd known her, but she had failed to make any sort of connection between the two. At the time, they told the family, there was nothing they could do as long as Claude's body was still maturing to full size-- lest any high-risk treatments be repeated unnecessarily, but within a few years' time, they promised the Bellamys hope.
On that promise of hope, Claude tried to live each day while blind as a learning experience. They figured, might as well take the chance to heighten their other senses, become some kind of being like the superheros they'd read about in comic books when they were once able to see. So they tried to live fully, just with a bit more tripping and falling at first than others around them-- but Vale had always been tough and adaptable. After a short period of depression, they even returned to their daochang to resume their kung fu training, much to their Laoshi's pride.
Not at all to her surprise, almost two years to the day after going fully blind, Claude was fitted for fully cybernetic eyes, and taken in for a highly risky operation that involved not only removing the remaining eye tissue, but brain surgery to hook up the mechanisms for their new eyes directly to their neural function.
They were able to unwrap the bandages from their eyes about a week after the surgery, and to the surprise of few, Claude quite literally squealed with delight-- just as promised, they were able to see just as well as they had once been able to, before their vision began to decline-- and better, it seemed. Somehow, much, much better, even. It was almost as if they noticed every little tiny detail of everything happening around them, which was somewhat overwhelming, and quite literally headache inducing at first with their eidetic memory, at first, but over time they learned to focus on the most important details to hone in on again, and what was likely most key to take note of remembering for later, and what could be disregarded entirely.
Several years later, after going away to study in the United States, a seemingly-unkempt, 22 year old Sinhyo 'Claude' Bellamy-- strung out by final exams and an upcoming graduation ceremony-- feels a new black hole of suffocating anxiety every day as they go out to check the communal mailboxes, eagerly awaiting to find out which Forensic Psychology or Crime Scene Investigation graduate program they'll be attending. A few letters came in the mail that fateful day: A credit card bill (which they halved and shoved in their pocket without looking at), a letter from France, and a letter hand addressed to them, with a return address to a very bizarre sender and location: Nemico, Lenix Island, Location Classified. Now this, they had to read first.
According to the letter, this "Nemico" had scouted Claude out, out of the many billions of people on the planet, for their special skills and aptitude, to join their organization to protect the greater good. The only other information given was another envelope inside, which contained a one-way plane ticket promising to take her to this 'Lenix Island' mentioned on the envelope. It all seemed so... fishy, suspicious-- almost like a dangerous adventure waiting to happen, they figured with a dismissive shrug...
And in the end, Claude stuck around in America just long enough to walk at their grad ceremony, and throw that weird little cap in the air. They never did find out which grad schools they were accepted to-- as the next thing they knew, they were on a plane, instead eager to discover what this "Nemico" mystery was all about.

✘ having to sit still AND quiet too long (just one or the other at a time is tolerable)
✘ being given superficial limitations ("don't go up there" when they're perfectly capable of climbing to that point-- it's not about taking orders, but about the concept of being told they 'can't' when they know/believe they can)
✘ being underestimated
✘ their height (too short, they think!)
✘ having their slight french accent made fun of (though they lost a lot of it living in USA)
EXTRA/TRIVIA
✦ most used phrase: "mon foutu dieu" , "oh, mon foutu..." , or variants upon such-- French mutterings that translate to about "my fucking god" and "oh my fucking--", respectively. They are also known to insult others to their faces in French, as if it's more polite to say horrible things about people if they don't understand what you're saying??
✧ Sometimes this leads to the inevitable "ooh, you speak French? Say something in French for me!" to which their response is always, "Allez apprendre votre prorpre foutue langue." [EN: 'Go learn your own damn language']
✦ frequently restyles/cuts+dyes their hair, not only because they find it fun, but because they enjoy the reactions of others upon seeing their dramatic change. they don't tend to change up how they wear their hair on a day-to-day basis (when they decide on a cut and color, it becomes routine for the time being), only when they make drastic changes every few months, then settle into that new style.
✦ absurdly good at freestyle rapping off the cuff, but doesn't realize it until they spit a verse one day and shock everyone around, including themself. After that, it becomes something of a small hobby.
✦ they are at their calmest during their daily 'tea time', when they use the electric kettle on their desk to make and settle in with a nice cup of tea. Usually in the evening (if they can help it), it's Claude's time to unwind and reflect on the day, at a level of calm which can shock and baffle those who are familiar with their usually non-stop demeanor. Usually, when the cup (or two) is empty, it's back to regular Claude, though!

Quite open. My current college courseload is solely online, and I spend much time online + rarely get to leave home due to severe chonic illness, so I'm frequently available and armed with an RP platform. I also don't mind playing message tag, or gaps of even a week to a few between replies, provided they're substantive somehow, so there's really nothing holding me back atm.
thank you all for reading this app, I hope we can write some fun together soon~~
