I drew this way back in 1991 with a 2b mechanical pencil. It is prabably the oldest drawing I have around. it is on 8.5x11 sheet of typing paper. i cant remember how long it took. It is a cover of a National Geographic magazine. At the time, he was about 104 and healthier than most 18 year olds because he worked every day of his life. I loved the leathery texture of his face and had to draw it. Thank you for your comments.Related content

Talk about coincidence. I just inherited about 40 years of National Geo from my Grandmother who, sadly, passed away earlier this week. This magazine cover was one of the magazines that kept surfacing to the top of the pile when I was loading them in and out of my car. It really is quite an impressive image. Every time I saw it I thought "I really need to draw this one..." You did a good job.
