Description I've had this drawing in my sketchbook for about a month or so now and I fully intend to finish it, but things have been a little bit too crazy lately for me to get to it any time soon. So! I figure I'll at least share the sketch with you guys so that you can enjoy it until I can work up the time and focus to put this crazy thing in color.

I doubt most folks will get the reference of this picture, as it's pretty obscure. This is actually fanart of a really awesome science fiction novel that I recently read called Barsk. The premise of the novel is a civilization of elephants who can speak with the dead, but one day the spirits of the dead seem to go quiet as their planet starts to come under the scrutiny of dangerous outside forces. The book asks some fantastic questions about death, life, and how we develop traditional values, and it has some downright gorgeous descriptions. One of the most mesmerizing was a scene where a little albino elephant named Pizlo was hanging among the vines of a remote spot on his island while watching and listening to the moon speak with him. I was so taken with the scene that I had to draw out what I'd pictured... and I slipped Chammy in there for good measure to add my own personal touch

There's actually a really awesome story associated with this drawing too I drew it while I was down at GenCon in Indianapolis, as I was reading the book to pass some time before the convention hall opened. It just so happened that the author of Barsk was a guest author at the writer's symposium that was going on there! I had NO idea that was going to be the case, and I wasn't even prepared with my own copy of the book (I was borrowing it from my library at the time)! So, I ran up to his table to have him sign something... and the only thing I had was the fanart of his book that I'd been drawing that morning He happily signed it, though, telling me that he never pictured Barsk looking so cute, but that he thought it was really cool We ended up talking for a good while about writing and anthropomorphic fiction and it just ended up being a fantastic time overall. This drawing really marks a good memory for me.

With all that being said, I'm happy to share this with you guys and I hope you like it too Check out the book if you can!
