PhotoshopTesting with the chinese novel style..
Was a really tough job, took a few tries before getting it to look ok. Learned alot during the process tho~
plannin to try out a bunch of dif styles i've never touched. So this is the first one. i'll be posting some more later when i have time to practice..
Much thanks to ~iDNAR for some useful crits and tidbits while i was workin on this.
EDIT: Changed nose a bit, tried to change to a more asian nose.

Teh only crit i have ish teh hair...it looks a bit too messy and static-y right now, like it's clinging to her face XD...so if joo could smooth it out more to get more flow, this would look even better ^^

thanks, about the hair..to be honest there wasn't any special techniques or tricks. its just painting hair like u'd do on a regular canvus.. block in the main shape of the hair and then paint thin strands coming out to show detail. thats basically it.. and if some hair gets too thick i used eraser to thin them..and make em thinner.. if theres something more specific u have in ur mind that u'd like to ask, lmk

ooh.. it's cool seeing you try out diff styles ^^.. I'd say my only critique is trying to get rid of the greys in your palette.. I feel that it's dirtying the image.. cuz usually the chinese novel style has a very clean and pastel palette throughout.. and the pencil lines you would see are very fine lines..

thanks jinny ^^ hmmm the greys DO definitely dirty the image, this style relies on a very rich pastel palette. i tried to keep it clean, do you specifically spot out which areas are dirty? ccause i know some areas are dirty though sometimes cause of working on the image for too long i can't see my own mistakes X__X but atm the ones i can see clearly are.......the rough ugly pencil lines...some of the skin on the body...hmm lmk if theres something u see. thanks XD

yea.. it's mainly the rough pencil lines ( i guess this was a smaller sketch you scanned in so the lines look thicker).. and parts of the skin such as her shoulder etc do have a greyish tone..

i see i see. thanks very much ^^ actualy...i did something i really shouldn't have done...i scanned it in....at 80 dpi...as preview image...then i got lazy and just blew the image to 300 dpi so.........;;;;;;; lines were grainly/thick and at a bad resolution lmao. hmm when i do take two hopefully i can do a better job.

Good job. I've been wanting to paint portraits recently. But I can't get myself to start until I get my homework done. Ah I hate myself for this, I can't draw my own stuff when I have other work on my mind!
