Karl Ruprect Kroenen is one of the most feared Nazi Special Operatives whose reputation rivals that of Red Skull and many believes him to be more powerful than the Nazi Super Soldier!

Born in Munich, Germany in 1897, Karl Ruprecht Kroenen was a musical prodigy with angelic features and blonde hair, who toured the capitals of Europe singing opera, until his voice deepened with the onset of puberty. From a very early age, Kroenen becomes devoted to the dark power of the Netherworld Dark Gods and began to worships their power, becoming a member of the Thule Occult Society where he quickly rose through the ranks. He also designed a tight-fitting gas mask to filter out germs, which he wore almost permanently. Yet the mask had a more sinister purpose: he disfigures his own face in order to show his devotion to the Netherworld and had succeeded in performing a ritual which he met Nobunaga li Britannia, his future Dark Master.

Seeing how devoted he was to the dark power of his homeworld and seeing his accomplishments in swordsmanship and studies of the Mystical Occult to the point that he began collecting items of great importance to the Eternal Empire, Nobunaga uses his godlike powers to reforge Kroenen into his own Angel of Death.

Without his mask, Kroenen reveals the features of a Fallen Angel, especially with horns that extends to a razor-sharp point and spews black wings once entering this "Death Angel" form.

Kroenen was quite adept with mechanical devices, believing that fusing mechanical constructs with living bodies would help create perfection. One of his early inventions was a clockwork nightingale that sang a Mozart aria perfectly. He proves to be a gifted inventor and develops a specialized pocket watch which his Dark Master uses to not only tell time but also as a Compass.

In 1930, Kroenen met the resurrected Rasputin for the first time and quickly became his most loyal ally due to the latter is also a devoted servant of Nobunaga. He subsequently joined the Nazi Party, and rose quickly through the ranks, joining the Schutzstaffel in 1933 and achieving the rank of Obersturmbannführer (Lieutenant Colonel). He was awarded the Iron Cross for services to the Third Reich, including a tour of duty on the battlefield as commander of a special Waffen SS unit which was also testing futuristic weaponry.

Kroenen isn't a coward as he puts his life on the line fighting the Soviet Forces on the Eastern Front and while he has a loathing for Red Skull due to the latter's naked ambition, the two do put aside their rivalry in order to achieve great success. Kroenen is even responsible for assassinating many Anti-Nazi individuals in Occupied Poland while going on a tour to Auschwitz in order to see the functionings of the infamous Death Camp.

Of course, his trip to Auschwitz was just a cover story: he chose to instead heads to Wolfenstein Castle and oversaw many inhuman experiementations while recruiting many people involved in the secretive Giftiger Sturm Program, a top-secret Nazi Project which includes the V-2 Rocket program, the Nova6 nerve gas and even Millennium's Nazi Vampire Army prgoram.

Kroenen became head of the Thule Society's Death Knights Corps, a group of German aristocrats obsessed with the occult. He helped them to spearhead Project Ragnarok, engineering the portal generator that would conjure the Scarlet Beast, Hellboy, in October 1944.

When Allied Forces stormed the island off the coast of Scotland where Project Ragna Rok took place, Kroenen killed several American soldiers attacking the base before a grenade was thrown under the portal device by a young Professor Trevor Bruttenholm. Kroenen tried to retrieve the grenade, but the explosion tore off his left hand and threw him backwards into a stone column, where he was impaled through the chest by a length of rebar. Though this severed his spine, Kronen somehow managed to disappear in the aftermath of the battle.

Kroenen remains devoted to Nobunaga and oversaw the secret transfer of many sympathizers to the Netherworld, especially the members of the Super Axis team since Nobunaga and his family have plans for them.

A master of disguise, Kroenen poses as a Soviet government official when touring the prison camp of Vorkuta where he saw Nikita Dragovich and his allies implanting a number sequence into captured CIA agent Alex Mason yet purposefully lets the door unlocked that enables Viktor Reznov to initiate his own plan for revenge.

A feared enemy of Captain America and Hellboy as well as the Vampire Alucard Ikari - especially when Kroenen used a Holy weapon on the Master Vampire due to what the latter's actions had done to Shinji & Takuto Ikari (greatly angered Nobunaga and thus gives Kroenen the assignment to punish Alucard), Kroenen continues to sports his Nazi uniform yet remains loyal to his master, who oversaw the expansion of the Netherworld and presides over the dominate rise of the Dark Cabal's supreme power.
