Digital Painting of Geronimo, Cougar Cub @ Jungle Cat World

This is dedicated to !tiffanyanddave , for being absolutely awesome, and the entire staff at Jungle Cat World, because they have such amazing passion and are such kind people!!!

Just gotta say for the record, Geronimo is the man, he is such an outgoing and adorable cougar! So much personality! Very inspiring!

This is one of my favourite paintings that I've ever done. I actually finished this MONTHS ago. Way back in August. I didn't post it because I've been working on a companion piece, of a little Tiger Cub, that will go next to it... just haven't had the chance to get any work done on it since school started... so eventually I will get that tiger cub portrait finished and posted. Stay tuned

To that end, my exams are over December 10th, so after that day, I'll have LOTS of time to get painting done! So excited! The next two weeks are going to be horrible, but after that I'll have free time!!!


EDIT: Changed the background colour to match my Geronimo painting, and added the border

Yes, I referenced one of my own photos from Jungle Cat World. I really wanted to get his features right
The original background colour was more grey, it was more like the colours of his fur.

Yupp, Geronimo lives at Jungle Cat World.
They've got lots of big cats of different types, and also some wolves, different species of lemur and monkey, birds, a donkey, deer, goats, and a few other small animals like meerkats, otters and rabbits. That's all I can think of at the moment, but I think they might also have some reptiles etc... for more info you can always ask Dave aka =NatureByDesign . He's there all the time

I love the new background colour and especially for the fact that it matches the one of Sherkhan now. I also love how they face in toward eachother if you were to put both pieces side by side.

I'm so glad you approve of the new background colour! I played quite a bit with it, tried out about 30 different colours/shades... this one seemed to work best for both.
The trouble was finding a reference photo that showed Sherkhan from the right angle to oppose Geronimo... that's why I was so happy when *filemanager allowed me to reference one of her's!

I think his eyes were actually a bit darker blue than in the painting... but I really wanted to make them the focus of the painting. He is stunning in person! And his name suits him perfectly

I know you'll figure out how to draw fur... in fact, you'll probably find a better way than mine (painting each stinking hair in one brush stroke at a time). You did a great job with the fur-like feathers on the penguins that you painted recently.

I'm working up to fur, lol. I did create a fur brush for my sea lion, I can see if it'll work for longer fur.
