Description Digital Painting of a barn owl.
Painted in Photoshop CS5, using one of my own photos as a reference.
About 8 hours of work.

Please note that I don't have time to say "thank you" for every favourite, but I appreciate them all nonetheless! Thank you all for your support!!!

Thought it was about time that I painted a barn owl... I love them. They are such beautiful birds! I actually got to hold one a few years ago, it was an awesome experience. Plus, I've always adored the movie Labyrinth. One of my all time favourites! When I'm feeling off for whatever reason, sometimes that movie is just what I need. Escaping to the Labyrinth
I was putting off painting a barn owl because of the crazy patterns on their feathers... and it was a significant challenge. In the end, I took a short cut, and made a custom brush to help me with the patterns. Not 100% thrilled with it, but I want to move on to a new project. My muse has a short attention span.

That's a nice piece here. Reminds me of the time on safari in Etobicoke when one of the blighters charged my porters. They all let go their loads, shouting "bad ju-ju! Bad ju-ju!" and hopped it into the bush. Had to carry my equipment and tucker all the way to Mimico Creek myself. Wait... that was a rhino...

I am amazed at the level of detail you put into these pictures.
The owl looks as if it actually came out of a photo, and it's gaze is sharp and looking right at you.
