Thanks, but doing this feels more mechanical than creative- most of that was done with the freeform Lasso tool. For parts like misty's face, I'd add a feather to the selection and painted from there. Apart from that I'd actually painted on light sources into the picture, blue, green and pink and thought about how light would bounce off the characters from there.

So, it feels like a boring wat to do things, but it gets good results. Thanks!

I don't think it sounds boring at all to be honest, it sounds like you've got a good way of doing things as a digital artist and it works really well. Light sources really bug me cus I can never seem to get them just right so I think I'll do some still life stuff soon in a bid to improve this, what do you reckon? Well done with the pic it is awesome.

Still life work would definitely help. Have a look at 's colour and lighting Gnomon DVD. That helped me a bunch.
Apart from that, just study things around you and see how light bounces in, off, and around them.
