You mean kick serious Equalist a$$? That's mainly because The Enemy has never fought airbenders before. The Equalists rely heavily on the element of surprise and chi-blocking to subdue opponents. Unlike the other, more straightforward forms of bending, airbending is all about evading, rather than attacking. By fighting someone "equal" in combat (ironically), they were caught completely off-guard, rendering their usual tactics useless...

I know Jinora would only be 10 or 11 in book 2. but man... I want her as part of team Avatar she, Asami and Korra having "girl time together" haha. drive the boys crazy. Jinora: Don't worry boys. your not a girl... you can't understand. haha.
Besides, Toph was 12 in the Avatar: the last airbender. Oh.. and see above. she did kick the tail out of the Lieutenant. so did Naga swipe...
