This is Jalama Beach, in sunny Lompoc California, an all expenses paid long-term vacation resort that people would literally kill to get into. I hear the food is not so good. Lompoc isn’t only famous for it’s Federal Prison (complete with embarrassing jailbreak story ) Lompoc’s got a historic mission the original of which was unfortunately destroyed in a series of major California earthquakes in 1812 and rebuilt. Off the coast there was the worst US Navy disaster ever to occur in peacetime the Honda Point Disaster in 1923 (I’ve mentioned this one before ) and Lompoc was started as a teetotaler community by Albert and Thomas Bloodgood Dibblee . I mean, with a name like Dibblee, what else are you gonna be? Their dad was named ‘Flyer Dibblee’ and he was a judge in Massachusetts. Albert is the guy who started all the bomb-making factories in Hollister (excuse me *cough* ‘energetic materials manufacture’). Thomas had lotsa sheep. However temperance did not last long and Lompoc is now famous for it’s dive bars. It’s also the location of Vandenberg Air Force base, who occasionally pop off some unusual missile or ufo that all of California spends an evening video taping on their cell phones.
So head up to Lompoc for a nice day on the beach and be sure to keep a ready eye peeled for a. nuclear missiles, b. escaped spies, c. shipwrecks, but know that right around every corner, there's a nice comfy bar where no one will bother you. Better charge that cell phone, just in case.
