joins yet another group because I love to suffer have good times with neat ocs
I don't know what possessed me to paint this when it's already last minute and I don't know how to paint
I'll probably polish the art up further some other time or replace it altogether I just don't wanna be lateeee

People tend to think that Niko comes off as a little brash. A little overbearing. A little bit of everything. He's a very active personality, and only has one volume, most of the time. His view of others is skewed at best, leading him to rely only on himself unless absolutely necessary. He's a firm believer that if you want something done right, you do it yourself, and when it comes to needing help, he has trouble mustering up the will to ask for it. And when he does agree to get help, he's usually really picky about where it comes from. It can also be argued that Nikola is way beyond stubborn. He's got a problem with knowing when to quit, and honestly believes that's a good thing, and is the reason he gets as far as he does. He treats running the food truck, (and running other food trucks into the ground,) almost as if it were a fight to the death, and a number of other owners have given up competing with him because he takes it entirely too seriously.
While he is somewhat startling to be around, all that noise comes from a good place. Nikola pours his heart and soul into the things he cares about, bringing forth a passion that few can rival. His over-protectiveness of his food truck can border on the obsessive, but it's all out of respect for his late trainer, and their dream. He'll fight tooth and nail for things (and people) that he believes in, and doesn't give up on them easily. When it comes to actually running the business, he's got a much better handle on his behavior, since he values the truck's reputation much more than his own. He's got a long way to go in terms of holding proper conversations over the counter, but he's making an effort, and it shows. Luckily, his cooking does most of the talking.
History:
Nikola doesn't remember much from before he met Buckley. He'd been told stories, though, about a young Shinx that was relentlessly bullied by his peers and siblings, all for being a runt. If anything, Niko's grateful that he doesn't remember a time when he wasn't being looked after by the kind older trainer. He'd been taken in right at the turning point of Buckley's career, the start of Buck's Burger Bus, a modest little food truck specializing in specialty burgers that roamed the streets of Sinnoh. The little Shinx was always eager to help out his trainer, "protecting" the bus from sketchy passing Pokemon and (unintentionally) making a show that brought in customers that wanted to watch the little cub romp around. Nikola spent years with Buck and that food truck, watching his trainer flip patties and tell jokes to patrons, his passion for it growing all the while. As he got older, Niko begin trying to attract more attention for the bus, and Buckley eventually got the idea to use winning battles against them as a promotional item. Since losing to customers meant they paid less, Nikola still strove to do his best, learning how to handle himself in battle for the sake of the business. While his record wasn't perfect in the slightest, the battles still brought people back again and again, and all in all, the now Luxio was proud to be so much help. Business boomed, the duo travelling all across the region, making a modest name for the bus.
Then, unexpectedly, Buck passed away in his sleep. Niko tried to tug at the pant legs of the people carting him away, yowling loudly to get answers, but the most he got in the end were a few pats of consolation and the reassurance that his trainer was in a better place. Nikola swore he'd never heard something so absolutely rubbish, the best place to be was their food truck! The truck in question was towed away to a junk yard shortly after Buck's death, Nikola stowing himself away on it. With his trainer gone, the Luxio had to push himself to the point of self-reliance, something that was completely foreign to him after years of being spoiled and coddled. The time on his own was far from easy, and as the months alone dragged on, Niko became more and more rough around the edges. He worked his hardest to defend the truck from wild Pokemon that wandered the lot, scaring them off with his noise and hostility, and for the most part, it worked. Out of business or not, Nikola wasn't letting anyone mess with Buck's bus.
That included the scrappy group of punks that wandered through the junk yard over a year after Niko took up residence. As usual, the Luxio had immediately come to the bus's defense, only to have the punks laugh at him. And (in a somewhat disrespectful way) pity him. One of them flashed Niko a look at a Dittech, and teased that they could even get him one, and the things he needed to start living like a human. At a cost. Then the little runt could do a lot more than hang around in the dump. Nikola was instantly caught up in the idea of just what having a Dittech could mean. He could bring back Buck's Burger Bus! Convinced that this was something Buckley would've wanted for him, Niko agreed to work for the group of Pokehumans, for the sake of getting himself this chance to revive their dream. Unfortunately, the jobs they had in mind were much more unsavory than Niko was expecting. Mostly stealing, or teaching a lesson to pesky Pokemon that had been troubling the group. Niko wasn't proud of what he did for his Dittech, and was even more ashamed when he considered what Buck would think of him, but he still hopes that those moral hiccups were worth it, in the end. After all, he did eventually get the device, albeit one that was hacked by Apellon and had it's fair share of glitches. But it was better than nothing.
Getting used to his new human form was more rushed than anything. Nikola was over-eager to begin work on rebuilding Buck's business, and it wasn't hard for him to remember all the details of how they operated the food truck. It was, however, hard for him to get himself used to being in charge of it. Pulling out the savings that Buckley had stashed away on the bus, he first had to pour a chunk of that Poke into getting the truck back in functioning order. Driving and cooking came next, and while it wasn't familiar to be moving the way he was, Niko pushed himself to get the hang of it, and didn't quit until he deemed his skills up to snuff. It was over a month later that he finally got the bus back on the road, and started up the business again. While it was bumpy at first, Nikola rolled with the punches, adapting to what did and didn't work, and trying his hardest to run a tight ship that Buck would've been proud of. The people of Sinnoh that remembered 3B were pleased to see it return, under the supervision of Buck's "son," and many of the more true fans weren't afraid to criticize Niko and give him advice, all of which he took to heart.
Nikola's plan to pretend to be Buckley's son worked out in the start, most people either not caring who ran the bus, or just glad to see it return. It wasn't long until people started questioning it, though. It started out as jokes about them not looking related, and Niko's nervous answers turned harmless comments into something to be suspicious of. Some of the conversations with customers would turn awkward, and at times it seemed like some of the usual crowd would avoid the bus, or pass it up. Niko started to panic. He wasn't sure if he was doing something wrong, or if it was the questioning of his relation to Buck that was turning away business, but this wasn't what he wanted. Almost a year after bring Buck's Burger Bus back to the streets, he resolved for a change. Kalos! He'd just move 3B to the other region, get a fresh start, a new customer base. Arriving in Kalos, Niko stationed the business mostly in Lumiose City, eager to bring back the glory of his and his trainer's dream.
Sexuality: One of those boring straight people (but he is demiromantic)
Relationships:
Buckley Pierson (Deceased) | Nikola's trainer, and essentially the only real family and friend he had. If you ask, he'll claim to be his son. Honestly, it doesn't feel like a lie to him.
Extras:
- Niko refuses to evolve further, because Buck had always been so excited to see that day for himself. Now that he's gone, Nikola feels like becoming a Luxray without him is wrong.
- Because of his reservations on evolving, Niko hunted down an everstone. He keeps it on his person at all times.
- He really, really dislikes being touched, in both forms. The most he can tolerate are very brief exchanges, such as handshakes.
- Buck's Burger Bus is often referred to as '3B' when he's talking to people that already know about it.
- He's got a couple glitches with his Dittech, with his eyes and fangs. He passes them off as Zorutech, but maybe some day he'll actually get it fixed and upgraded to the "real" deal.
- Always looks like he hasn't slept in a week. The accuracy of that is up for debate.
- While he doesn't have much trust in anyone else, he does need to hire others to help him run the food truck. The way he screens for this is... intense.
- Nikola is the (poke)human embodiment of caps lock. His volume control is terrible unless he really concentrates on it.
- For him, the nickname "Nikki" is extremely off-limits. It was something Buckley would often call him, and he will usually get upset when people (especially strangers,) use it.
- One of his themes is You're Not There . I'm probably gonna make a whole playlist later, ngl.
- Nikola's a big ol' angsty greaseboy, don't let him fool you into thinking he's not.
