Description An extra piece of artwork I did for ~glaceon44 since I was so late with getting my artwork done for the volunteer pokeswap. Obviously, I drew a glaceon since it's her deviant name. (FYI: Glaceon is using blizzard here).

This is the first time I used Paint Tool Sai for coloring, and I gotta say, it was incredible. Painting in Sai is immensely better in Photoshop that I might switch over all together. Just the way that Sai allows you to blend is phenomenal. Sorry Photoshop. >>;

I love they dynamics here. This looks like you could have popped it out of the show as a screen capture.

Hmm...Paint Tool Sai...never tried it.

Thank you! And give it a try, it takes some getting used to after using Photoshop for so long, but coloring is a lot more painterly with it.

Someone has been working on her fair share of Pokemon stuff recently, not that's by any means a bad thing, though. This just reminds me that I have a Glaceon of my own to train and test out, but I digress.

For your first try with a new program, this image of Glaceon actually does show some nice qualities. I must say that I do like how the colors come together, while still defining the shadows. I'm not sure what's different between Sai and Photoshop (never used either, unfortunately), but you've appeared to have gotten something out of the transition. That said, I think my favorite part of this piece has to be the eyes and the way they appear to have a glow-like effect. It just feels fitting for a Pokemon like Glaceon using a move as powerful as Blizzard.

It sounds like the experience with Sai has given you a new-found direction of sorts to take with your digital work, and hopefully, you'll continue to keep at it and show the improvement you intend to make over time. For the moment, I think it's fair to say you did a very nice job on this. Keep it up!

Lol, I have been on a bit of poke-fever lately. I'll be taking a small break; I don't want to OD on it. This reminds me that I still have Pokemon games myself to play, which I've been neglecting as well. >>;

The difference between photoshop and sai is the blending I found: to get this effect with photoshop, I would have had to layer the colors then used the blur tool to blend them together, while in sai, there's various tools like watercolor, oil, etc. and when you use them they'll automatically blend together. It's really nice.

Actually, I forgot to put it down, but the background and eye glow was done in photoshop so by no means am I done with that program. I thought it was quite fitting for Glaceon's eyes to be glowing too.

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I'm quite happy with the improvement that my art has made and I hope I keep progressing too!

Thanks! Coloring in Sai is just so much more painterly, you should try it sometime (I have a copy of Sai that you can put on your computer )
