So I saw the live action movie of Ghost in the Shell and surprisingly I enjoyed it. The story was nicely summarized and visually was awesome, like... that suit, man, DAMN! Even though I understand the whole whitewash thing coughnotreallycough, in the end, it didn't bothered me, not one bit. After all, the point was to literally create this whole new identity for her, so yeah :/
The good thing is that apparently many people in Japan liked the movie :3
So yeah, so what if it's a bit different? As long as you enjoy it, it's all good, right? And just like Satoshi kon once said, "Remaining rigidly true to the novel is pointless because the novel will always be superior."
