Yes that’s right folks my man Spike finally got his redesign!

Without a doubt my most popular Oc—which is funny because they don’t have that big of a presence on my DeviantArt!

For those unaware, Spike is the mascot of my YouTube channel! Where I make animations and review gaming related stuff (Pretty much just Skylanders reviews, but I want to branch out soon since I don’t want to be stuck talking about the same series, that would make me sick of it very quickly!!)

Spike is really just me trying to make the most fun-to-write character. Part of his personality is that he is a parody of what he talks about. He talks about very irrelevant things in the videos because of how irrelevant he is compared to his peers, and general society I tried to make him a very awkward, and impulsive character. Highly clingy (borderline obsessive at times) and never to be taken seriously. Paranoid, insane, and anti-social are words that describe him best. Despite being very vocal and noticeably… well, enraged in certain videos. Spike doesn’t like talking about this passion. Being self-conscious about his image and not wanting his hobbies to get in the way of things. His only real goal is to be loved. But he never takes any actions to try to be noticed, or get attention from others.

Character bio asides.. what other trivia is there… Oh! His full name is Spike Pokotchi Whitehorne. Though his last name isn’t really new information. As his last name was referenced in a video on someone else’s channel I helped with. So I guess the fact it was first shown there is trivia? Idk. His favourite foods are steak, grape sodas, and most of all, Red Velvet cake! Spike also possesses multiple abilities related to being a dragon. Such as flight, fire breath (though he is currently unable to do it on command) and the ability to regrow his tail and wings, if they were cut off. Spike only grew his tail recently— which is abnormal since most people like him start growing a tail at the age of twelve. Now, if these abilities seem a bit overpowered… don’t worry. Besides flight none of these are out to good use. And he is not athletic. Only having okay at best cardio. And… nothing else. Man gets like, no expertise. Lots of other characters in this series are vastly stronger than him. (Yes, I will be introducing more characters alongside Spike on the channel. But I don’t want to spoil anything.)

It should be mentioned that Spike isn’t a sona. They are more of an outlet to express opinions. And again, they are a parody of Skylanders YouTube channels in his personality. Besides Spike being fifteen, and living in Canada. I try to make him as separate as possible. Especially with Spike’s insecurities. (Obviously the voices are similar since I voice Spike, but I go for a more wimpy, high pitched voice when I am acting as him)

Although this ref sheet is out currently. Spike’s redesign hasn’t appeared on my YouTube channel yet. And it won’t for awhile now! I still have to draw the rest of his new stills. and make a new video using the design yet! So my next video won’t use this design.

The redesign has made a few small appearances. If you wait until the very end of the “Skylanders Marketing” video, a plush form of the redesign will appear with earrape audio. The redesign appeared in my recent comic I posted less than a week ago. And although the clothing is different. His Miitopia: Trapped design has the same body as him.

I have been working on this redesign for awhile now. When I was interviewed on my friends podcast (though I didn’t know him when he first asked me to be on his podcast) I mentioned that I was working on the redesign. Which transitions pretty well into the main reason I changed his design. The first question I was asked on that podcast was “Is Spike a Dragon or a Demon?” This is a big reason why they are getting a redesign. Spike wasn’t originally designed to be a dragon or be my YouTube mascot. He was intended for something else entirely. So I didn’t change his design when turning him into a dragon. I just said “he is a dragon!”. I think I made it a bit more obvious. The other major reason I changed his design. The old design looked too old. Spike is supposed to be my age. So I changed the clothing, made his proportions different. Overall trying to make them “cuter”. This is a big reason why his hair is larger. A little fun fact I ended up delaying doing a collab with another channel (a channel with a pretty large sub count compared to me btw) due to wanting to have the redesign finished, and not wanting more media of their old design.

That was a lengthy cluster of words! That’s all for now.. geez I’ve been on a roll with posting things on DeviantArt lately. If what I described of my YouTube channel sounds cool, ehh check out it!
