Description Done in December 2014 (Wow, I was really cranking a lot of stuff out around this time, wasn't I?) Okay, so I have a confession to make: ToS2: Dawn of the New World (or Knights of Ratatosk if you're not American) is my guilty pleasure. The first Tales of Symphonia game was what originally got me into the series and I have a lot of nostalgia for it, but I think I've thrown more hours into this game than any other Tales game. During middle school I literally had a save file with 400+ hours of gameplay put into it, and I dunno how many new game pluses. I'll freely admit that it is a very flawed game that is okay at best, and I could probably spend hours ripping it to shreds, but. I still like it a lot. And Emil is probably my favorite Tales protag, despite how much he seemed to annoy everyone else on this planet. This was kind of the last of these that I did. I orginally inteded to do more (as in, one for every game) but sometimes you just end up moving on to new things, ya know?

You put a lot of work into this. So many characters to draw. (The party is huge in this game. )
I really didn't mind Emil or Marta either. Like the game itself they still leave you with a smile on your face.

Thank you! And yeah. I mean I get why a lot of people didn't like them, (Hell, Emil's one of my favorite characters in the series and he managed to piss even me off at a few points with him frequently bashing Lloyd during most of the game) but I don't think they were nearly as bad as I think people tend to make them out to be? I dunno. I liked them, but to each their own I guess.

(And oh boy, if you think this one is bad with the amount of characters, you should see my Tales of the Abyss one. I had the stupid idea to shove all the God-Generals in there and hated my life for the good two weeks that I spent on that one lol)

I thought it was kind of funny sometimes, like when Tenebrae said "Isn't that Lloyd over there?" in a skit and he flips out and runs off yelling "Where are you?!"

Oh no, Symphonia nostalgia...Please don't tell me you think Symphonia is the best because of nostalgia? I'm tired of that being the reason >>

I do definitely like Symphonia the most, and nostalgia is certainly a big factor in that, but whether or not I think it's the best tales game is another question entirely. (Which, for the record, I do not.)

Which do you think is the best? : 3

Off the top of my head I'd say probably Abyss? I think they did pretty amazingly in terms of story and characters. Which I feel like is kind of the whole point/appeal of Tales games.

I'd mostly agree with you there, though I think it made a big leap for gameplay, too. From Phantasia up to Legendia, Tales had always been on a 2D plane. Symphonia tried to trick you into thinking there was a 3D plane, but that was blatantly false.

Tales of the Abyss, with Free Run, completely revolutionized how the battle system worked, and made character archetypes that used to be incredibly difficult to play (The archer, the mage) much more viable options. Natalia was the first archer character in a Tales game who wasn't considered laughably underpowered, and you had to learn to dodge around if you ever wanted to beat Asch in a one-on-one.

Tales of Graces took the system Abyss started and refined it more, until the series had a competent, beautiful battle system that is, to this day, my favorite way to play an RPG.
