Description Epic hike today to Ka'ena Point where I got to see the endangered Hawaiian monk seal in the wild.
Monk seal populations have been struggling for a while, but more recently, vicious rumors spread by local fishermen claiming that the seal is both non-native and to blame for the declining fish stock, have led to several monk seal killings in the past year alone. These rumors are blatantly untrue: the Hawaiian monk seal is found nowhere else in the world, and has actually been a resident of these islands longer than native Hawaiians have. As for the declining fish stocks, well they are due mainly to a combination of pollution, overfishing, and poor resource management.
Seal protection efforts are ongoing.
Hoping to do my part by donating these photos to the locally based Hawaiian Conservation Council.

I like that you got him with his head lifted too. That looks wonderful. Your camera got such good detail of his coat. I also appreciate your landscape choice to this photo.
