Description I didn't doodle as much as I would've liked in Japan, but here's something I did draw. I was playing around with different pencil leads, just checking out the results. Also: the debut of my inkan (chop) in the bottom right hand corner! I etched that sucker out myself

Adorably deadly. Reminds me of the live action Casshern film.

Awesome! I love the design in Casshern. That guy's crazy talented.

Did you see the live action film? It was amazing. I felt really inspired to comic it after watching it, but like many things, laziness and business squash my ambitions.

Yeah, that's the only one I've seen. It was a hodgepodge of Akira, EVA, and a few other influences, but it merged them pretty seamlessly, as well as beautifully. I picked up the three disc set in Japan to watch the making ofs. It was actually the first film (from my understanding) to do the Sin City green screen everything approach to filmmaking. Cool, right?

I didn't know about it being the first, but it is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. Unfortunately my Japanese is nowhere near a listening level. I can only catch words hear and there, and that's if they have a perfect Tokyo accent and not some weird countryside dialect. So I'm forced to watch it with the TERRIBLE English subtitles. A lot of phrases are missing. Sometimes it seems like someone said something important, but the subtitles are somehow missing. Interesting factoid, the story is largely based on Hamlet.

Huh! Cool. I'm pretty sure there's a good official DVD out there. I think I picked it up at Big Lots X(

Did you try watching it with subs? I'm pretty sure the only official subtitles /are/ the bad ones. Idk if there are any good fan fan subs that fill in the missing dialogue.

awesome! I feel as if this is a combination of Robo from Chrono Trigger & a Metal Slug

which just seems like an awesome combo

Awesome! I was just kind of doodling, but Akira Toriyama's robots are always awesome.

Yep! Two perfect leads, in fact- 4h and 4b-the lightest for doodling, and the darkest for 'pencil inking'. I was in Japan for two weeks, book/art supply buying.

I do like 4h and 4b. Though I prefer 6b for large dark areas. The extra softness lets me cover an area faster and 6b and up generally has a wider lead too.
