hide from X Japan.Ew, first off, proportion errors galore. Second, my scanner sucksssss!!! It couldn't scan all of the picture... -_-;;; Third of all, there was no way I could get the paper to lay flat so there were bumps and etc. showing up. I edited the worst part out using Photoshop... Obviously I didn't do a very thorough job... X_x
Meh, not bad considering it's my first time drawing this stuff. Okay, I've done basic outlines and etc. before but never like this so yeah.
Sorry for the lack of updates. I'm CGing... it's just taking a bloody long time with schoolwork and stuff like mangas distracting me. > >;;;

Ah yes it's a very nice piece indeed but i would have to agree with snow-chan (Hence the fact that I'm not all that with doing portraits).
Very nice though i like how you did the face. The glasses are well done.

Not bad~ Very uniform shading that brings the piece together. You definitely have the most important basics of graphite shading down.
The proportions are alright, they're actually pretty good (I contradicted myself). Most people who work with these types of photos don't even have a sense of proportions.
The only thing I'd say about this picture is that there isn't enough contrast in the picture to bring out its full potential. From my point of view, his hair lacks very dark shades. There are also edges where it seems like the hair just suddenly cuts off onto a lighter shade. Without darker shades, the picture doesn't look very 3D and um...showcasey 
One important tip that art teachers always stress for beginner level art students is never shade exactly like the original photograph. I've seen the picture for this before and it's really bright, hence his shoulder and arm disappearing.
Even though you may like the picture, it's not smart to pick those kinds of photographs because it lacks as a b&w picture and it has parts that are just "gone".
It looks really odd to me that his shoulder and arm just fade off even though it looks fine in the color photo. You also want to make sure that you never ever outline anything when doing portraits. Define the subject with shadows and highlights, not outlines.
One last tip I managed to pick up from my art 1 teacher is not to leave the bg all white. Do some sort of gradient for the background so hide can stand out from the picture. The gradient does not need to be gradual, it just needs to end smoothly. Doing this automatically solves your disappearing shoulder problem since you will have bg to back up the form.
