One of my cousins is homoromantic (I don't know about her sexual preference.), and I had several lesbian, and a few transgender, classmates during my undergrad years at Bryn Mawr College, a women's college in the United States.  I am proud to have gay/lesbian/generally queer friends in both my parents' generation and mine, finding them more humorous, interesting, and overall down-to-earth than many non-queer people I've met.

Yes I know.  I'm sorry for the confusion.  I meant to say homosexual, but despite sharing a lot of her CA adventures with her family, I haven't heard about her having a steady girlfriend for a significant amount of time.  Then again, that's not information I would casually divulge either, being demisexual and just beginning to date in my 20s.  That's right, I went through high school and college without dating, and while it would have been nice to have a romantic support, I needed to focus on finding my adult self and coming to terms with the depression and anxiety I live with.

Pride month is about reminding LGBT people that they are valid in every way. It's not that we can only be proud for one month, it's to shine light on us; give us the spotlight. Pride month is not hurting anyone.

I have a similar opinion about the government sanctioned day of unrealistic expectations of romantic love, i.e. Valentine's Day.
