I've never done a painting that took so many changed directions. I've been working on this two days deep into the night, changing everything, this actually started as a flowery meadow! Then I painted some sunlit mountains, then a hill in the distance looked like a ball so I made it into a floating ball, and gave it a tree. Tiny floating tree was great but the mountains were obscuring it! So I made a lake and moved the mountains away and gave it more sky, then giant floating islands were put behind it because I thought, yeah waterfalls will make it shine, and then sometime later, actually we'll turn entire sky into waterfalls! And there were still meadows and hills and even snow in the picture but it felt wrong, it was crowded, and I stared at it for HOURS, showed it to friends, and realized in the end, only parts that make sense are the waterfall and the tree. So I cropped everything else out, and the tree got these giant roots that could be walked on, the floating islands became a cave behind the watefalls, only to later turn into the starry night sky. And the last thing I thought was, hey, what if this wasn't completely daytime, what if it was darker?

And then the image felt like it was exactly what I wanted to draw. Do you know that feeling when you draw something and it speaks to you, and makes you feel something? I felt that. It was worth panting it over and over again for two days.
