They really are, espescially the blooms. I used to have quite the collection but most of them didn't thrive after we moved nine years ago so I only have a handful left now.

Yeah cacti need really good sunlight, I imagine it's difficult to grow them if you change locations away from a place that has good light.

Oh, the light is about the same, it was the winter conditions they didn't like. We used to store them in the cold basement in the old house, but the new one doesn't have one, so storing them over winter became a problem. The ones that survived seems more sturdy though and they usually bloom every summer, in my mother's garden.

Ahaah yeah well we've tried a few and lost them all and I just feel bad bringing home those poor doomed plants anymore! Plus we have to keep them on our balcony anyways because of the bird. So many plants are toxic to him I wouldn't want him to have an accident and get hurt or worse...

Oh me too! I really would be satisfied with just a few on my porch because having just a small apartment is nice for cleaning and such XD but hey, I know we're thinking of to moving to a slightly larger place at some point and maybe then we'll have some sun facing windows XD
hahah oh man XD salad every night at her house huh? I know when I lived with my parents we'd get so many really hot peppers my dad would grow ughhh we always had too many and he had to dry them XD Though I can't really eat tomatoes anymore, at least not more than a bite or two because my stomach is really sensitive with acidic foods, but MAN I love tomatoes.

You know, I couldn't agree with you more about the cleaning, lol! That's great, I hope you will. You know, the current apartment is too dark for my likes, there's really only one room that's bright and cheery. I noticed in the apartment I had, that was very, very bright, that my mood was affected in a positive way. It's just no fun fumbling around in the dark at all. My current kitchen is placed in the centre of the apartment, far away from windows, so it's not that fun sitting down eating there.
ha ha, oh yes. The tomatos she grows, that grow under the sunny sky, have a rather spicy taste to them, very different from greenhouse grown ones and a much thicker peel, so I usually peel them. We've just been discussing what to grow this summer, I'm thinking some 'roots' might be fun to try, like horseradish or parsnip. We've tried carrots in the past and onions and different kinds of cabbage and they work really well here.
Ha ha, ugh, hot peppers. Yeah, you know ... I can't deal with very strong, spicy food at all myself. I'm sorry that you can't even have tomatos, they're so great.

Well .. there's dark and there's dark I think. If we're talking quiet evenings, I like that time of day, espescially in the summers. There's an almost magic kind of serenity to the end of the day. You can hear nature and wildlife just settling in for the night ... But I require a certain degree of daylight to feel good. But often during the winters when there's so little of it anyway, I stay up all hours of day and night, I have a habit of really messing the daily rhythm up. :/
They're great, really, espescially in casseroles and stews. Ha ha, well you can use as much and as little as you wish. We use a white sauce with horse radish in it to cooked (not grilled) meat and sausages, it does miracles to those dishes really. Onions are great, aren't they? You can use them for pretty much everything.
Ha ha, do you have striped beets at all? We have these really funny looking ones that are both white and red, maybe those would stain less. And lol about trying to plant things in the carpets. Remind me to never keep birds! XD
I bet. I'm glad I can still eat pretty much anything that's 'natural' and not pre-processed and stuffed with artificials. I still managed to get myself two IBS attacks the past week somehow ...

Haha I understand, a lot of people are like that My mom is really not good in winter, she basically has to have vitamins and sun lamps and stuff to keep her mood good because the light effects her mood so much.
And mm I'll have to see if I can have some sometime! We don't do much stew stuff because my gal seems to not be a big fan of soups (I think she's crazy!) but I would love to do a bit more casserole type stuff. We just both get so distracted sometimes, that we just settle for easy things like sandwiches and pasta a lot. XD
I don't know if I've seen any, those might be a bit more regional. But haha there are a lot of drawbacks to any kind of pet I guess haha, I think Curtis is great because he's so smart and talkative. I think a lot of people perceive birds as a pet you can look at but not interact with, like a goldfish, but Curtis knows us very well and can tell us apart from strangers easily, he avoid them or yells at them XD Usually he's afraid of them in general.
But it's obvious that he knows and trusts us because he'll let us pet him, or kiss his back without biting. He even knows how to give a little kiss with his beak XD It's obvious that he wants companionship with us, much like a dog would. Our first bird, when we left her with my inlaws for a week while we were out of the country, she snubbed us to punish us for leaving her, and Curtis, if we're ever out of town for a day or two and leave him with the inlaws, he is super excited to see us back and is very cuddly.
Many parrots have a sophistication and social behavior that is honestly so enjoyable and fulfilling. I feel like he really cares for me and can tell me apart from other people. When he wants to be help and sit with us, he calls us to let him out, and sometimes he just likes to be within sight so he can play by himself. I think the benefits really out weigh the negatives though hehe even when he makes a mess, at least it's easier to clean up that dog or cat stuff really XD
And augh me too. We're fairly sure it's IBS, because I have a strong sensitivity to acidic or very greasy or salty food. You'd be so shocked by how many foods have citric acid in them D: But yeah. I know how you feel! It's terrible and ruins my ability to work very hard for the whole night!

Really? I'm sorry to hear that. I'm not sure how much the light, or lack thereof, effects me, but it's definitely the fact that I get isolated indoors without being able to go outdoors that's getting to me. It seems to be getting worse every year now, brrr. I've seen those winter lamps here as well, perhaps I'll invest in one for next winter.
Ha ha, yes I'm not a fan of soups myself really, casseroles are great though and you can vary them indefinitely. And I know what you mean, sometimes it's such a chore to cook and eat that I'll just settle for something easy instead. Like a glass of milk.
Well, I'd say a bird is probably a bit smarter than a goldfish in the first place. Mind you, I've kept lots of goldfish and they're surprisingly awesome. They can tell me apart from other people, probably because I'm the one feeding them, and they have their daily routines just like we do. Teaching them simple tasks is really easy, like in which corner of the tank to come for food. I used to play around with mine, changing the corner every once in a while and it really took them no time at all to learn to come to where I was gently knocking my fingers against the glass.
I saw a TV show about veterinarians last week, and one case was a very vet-frightened dog who had to have his claws trimmed at home. And the owner also happened to have 43 birds spread out in large indoor and outdoor cages. Mostly budgees (do you spell it like that, lol!) and small parrots. But seriously ... 43!
I'd never keep that many because, just like you say, I'd like to be able to interact with the birds I had and I couldn't find time for 43 of them. One or two would be all right I think, that way you can establish a personal relation with both of them.
Aww, that is so sweet. So he really can tell that you've been away for a while, can he?
Yes, I'm starting to see that. But then, aren't they very social birds in the wild as well? I'm sure he's thinking you're part of his .. flock or family by now and is displaying the same affection he would have towards his 'real' mate? Ha ha, oh yes, I would say so. You seem to get so much love and fun out of this little guy and I'm sure his life is fulfilled in a similar way.
I know ... I remember us discussing this earlier once. I'm not sure it's the citric acid in my case, or at least not just that, because I can happily enjoy some things, like orange maramalade for example, or fresh oranges and mandarins etc. But it might be that there is some kind of chemical 'explosion' inside the body when several things are mixed. That's my suspicion anyway since I have such a hard time tolerating many prefab meals. It's just an awful condition, isn't it ... it really can ruin your life. Somtimes I get so weak for seveal days on end I can barely even sit upright ..

Yeah, man though, it's getting hot again, I can barely stand it haha. I'm such a baby about summer.
Sorry to knock the awesomeness of fish. Really I think people are so critical about the types of pets people keep sometimes. Like getting all jerky about someone keeping lizards, or ferrets or whatever the case is. I know there are some fish owners out there who are so fulfilled owning fish and it makes them happy to keep them and the way they interact with them makes them very happy. And I think that's totally cool. I'm glad, and I really shouldn't hate on those happy fish owners out there. I guess I just get frustrated when people think of my companion as more of a "decoration" or something. That makes me pretty annoyed XD
As for owning so many birds, or so many anything no way! Yeah, I like having 1 or 2 pets and having a really close relationship with them. I would feel terrible if they felt they didn't have enough attention or love. I mean, I think when you take something into your life like that, the responsibility is for you to enrich their life as much as they enrich yours.
And yeah Curtis considers us his flock, for sure XD. Hopefully not as mates. Because I don't want him getting jealous of me or my fiancee when we hug. If he thinks we're family/flockmates and understands we're not "exclusive" that's going to be very much for the best. Plenty of parrot owners have stories about their birds who think of them as mates and how difficult it can be for their significant others, who the bird with outright hate and sometimes attack. XD
Oh man! I've never had it THAT bad thankfully. It's always just been some pretty horrible pain where I have to lie down for several hours. But actually, I've been trying out these fiber pills lately and oddly enough it's been so beneficial. The pain has been far less acute and much more manageable.

I totally sympathize with you there! Somtimes I almost feel physically ill when it gets to a certain degree. One year, we had an insanely hot summer, with a heat wave that lasted nearly five weeks. We had lots of small forest fires that year because of the drought. Some even started very near here, so it was quite scary for a while.
Oh not at all. I think it's a common idea that fish are stupid. They really aren't. You know .. once I did a little real life experiment and caught some wild fish and kept them in one of my aquariums for a while. And they were tame within hours! I'm not kidding. They appeared to be as curious about us humans on the outside as we were of them, and they fed green peas from my hands in a day. It was amazing.
I'd love to keep lizards sometime but I hear it's a lot of work to keep them healthy so I don't know ... I'd hate to make them sick from simple neglect or ignorance.
Aw well, isn't he a decoration though to some degree? I mean, would you keep a really, really, really ugly bird for a pet? I don't think there are any birds like that though, lol.
Right? At least it seemed all those birds were really happy living together in such a huge flock. It might even be better for them than keeping just one or two ... but it was still pretty crazy. And yes, that attention thing is really my biggest worry as well. I wish you could see my little litter of three cats, I bred them myself and we've always been together. When we're indoors, they're never more than a few feet away from us and preferably, we'll all huddle together in the TV sofa late at night. That's part of the reason I do so much gaming, espescialy in the winter, ha ha. I just love all the cuddling in the sofa!
Lol, I understand. I actually heard that many lone parrots, the bigger ones, get fiercely jealous and can even attack the owner's mate or spouse because of it. Oh right, sorry, you're saying as much. That would be a bad and scary situation I'm sure. I remember hearing some professional explaining that the wrong thing to do is to pet your (big) parrot constantly, that way they will get to think of you as their mate. I remember this one woman who kept her ... oh, well it's a rather big white parrot species, I forget the English name right now, on her shoulder all day long, carried it around and constantly talked to it and petted it, and it had started attacking her husband viciously out of jealousy. Sounded really bad.
I'm glad to hear that. It's so annoying, I'm moving around in super slow motion, it's really quite silly. That's odd, but that's great. I've heard the fibres often worsen the problems for IBS sufferers. Might depend on what kind of fibres it is, I suppose. What are they made of, do you know? I can check and see if we have something similar here.

Yikes! I've never been around fire like that. So scary!
That's so cute! Awww and yeah about lizards, I've always wanted reptiles, but as a kid my parents wouldn't let me and now that I have such a time consuming birdy, I'd rather put all my attention on him haha
Hah well I just mean people think of them as the same as picking out a wallpaper that you have to feed!
Aww big pile of kitty cuddles eh? Super cute!
That's very true, we have to be careful to give our parrot equal attention so he doesn't favor one of us! It's called a Cockatoo and yeah.
I don't know if it'll work for all people, I'm not even completely sure
if what I have IS IBS, it behaves a lot like it though... it's genetic as far as I can tell since my mom and grandma also seem to have it. As far as name though it's just called "Fiber Capsules"

It wasn't that close but we could still smell the smoke on the wind and see the glow on the clouds at night. Luckily, the fire fighters managed to get it under control fairly easily so it was never a threat to us. Lots of uninhabited forests around here thankfully, so there's some kind of buffer zone around us.
I bet. And he deserves it.
Lol, that's a funny description. speaking of wall papers .. I signed the contract for a new, much bigger apartment this morning, I can hardly believe it ... and since the place is in dire need of repairs, I got to pick wallpapers for three of the rooms, the hallway and the kitchen. Sooo much fun, even though the selection on offer wasn't all that big. Really looking forward to start moving in a month and a half!
Oh it is. You should have seen the little family when the mom and dad were still alive. Five big cats cuddled together in my bed or in the sofa. You could almost die of cuteness overload ...
I see. Well, considering how much chemicals we stuff ourselves with, I don't find it the least bit surprising that so many of us are getting sick. It wasn't even until lately that I realized my grandmother had a lot of problems as well, she was always in pain and sometimes had to be rushed to the hospital when it got too bad. I hope it never gets to that point for me. Or for you.
