I prefer P3 really over P4 and what I saw of P5.
Just because it really has that whole scary vibe. I mean you're in a parallel world with monsters. P4 and P5 just look so awkwardly happy. I mean geez the real world in P4 was creepier than the Midnight Channel ; ;

It's just so stylized. Which is a good thing but it just doesn't really give you that creepy athmosphere you'd expect from a world full of monsters.
And somehow the deaths in persona 3 felt a lot more realer and had more impact than the midnight channel victims. The last arc of the persona 4 (the normal one not the golden version. Marie can write poems in hell) did at least do a decent job at it after the shadow world was always portrayed as this joke to make the characters look stupid.
