Description
He had rushed back to get Mufasa, and even then his brother wasn't enough.

He had brought Simba along on a walk when he was called away for urgent news. He had told the cub to stay put, but everything had gone to hell. Zazu had heard the cub's screams before he had gotten back and alerted him of the stampede that Simba was trapped in. He knew he had to ask his elder brother for help, there was no way he could brave the stampede and save the prince. It had all happened so fast, and he had saw his brother fall before he could catch him. He was so close... His paw was right there... He had rushed down into the gorge and saw his dead brother laying there, trampled by the wildebeest that had been rushing through the gorge just moments before. And surrounding his brother?

"Shenzi, Banzai, what is the meaning of this?!"

"You lions think you're the top of the food chain," Shenzi barked out, "and him especially. Pity the stampede didn't kill him sooner."

"This, this is your fault!" Scar was angry, his sorrow replaced with rage, and the hyenas just laughed. The silent one of the bunch, Ed, snapped his teeth at Mufasa's still body and Scar lunged forward, swatting the scavenger away from his brother.

"This is the first of many, Scar, it's best you watch your back." Banzai claimed, but he smiled a twisted smile. "Perhaps if we came to an agreement, we could offer you protection?"

Tears grew in Scar's eyes, tears of fury and pain, and he knew how well that agreement would go. "We were speaking of peace! We were to allow you to hunt! But now you've betrayed our trust, and no hyena will ever be allowed back in our lands. We will kill you on sight."

Shenzi scoffed and rolled her eyes, "Fine, doesn't matter to us. We'll get in other ways."

But then, realization struck Scar hard. He whipped his head around, searching for any sign of the small golden cub that Mufasa had gave his life to save.

"W-Where is Simba?"

"Who?" Banzai questioned.

"Where is my nephew!?" Scar was demanding of the hyenas now, and he saw Ed lick his teeth and cackle. No... No he couldn't be dead, not Simba!

"Oh the brat!" Shenzi's smile grew and she chuckled darkly, "He's no longer a problem for us."

It was then that Scar attacked, scarring the female leader of the trio heavily before they scampered off. Shenzi was sure to make it so none of the trio let loose the information that they hadn't killed Simba, that he had only ran off as they told him it was Scar's fault and he was coming to kill him next. They cackled loudly as they ran. Scar was filled with rage, but all that vanished for a second when he looked to his brother next to him. Mufasa, the first born, the golden child. Mufasa was the one that their grandmother loved, he was the one that she had trained to be a king, and he was the one to save him from life in the Guard.

And how did Scar repay him?

It took him what seemed like hours to tear himself away from his brother's body, and that was when Zazu had found him.

"Gather the pride, but not Sarabi, I'll tell her myself."

Sarabi had been worried as well as the rest of the pride. Her son and mate had been gone all day, not a word from Zazu either. And when Scar appeared over the ridge of their secret place she could see the sorrow in his eyes.

"T-Taka?"

Taka, she was the only one allowed to call him that, and only in secret. When they came here with Simba they taught him the language of Sarabi's homeland, they told him stories of the past kings of the Pridelands, and they gave him lectures on how to rule. But when they came here alone...

"Mufasa... H-He's dead."

Her stomach churned, their king was dead, which meant that Simba was next in line to rule. She half expected Simba to come sulking up alongside Scar, and yet he wasn't there. Was he back at Pride Rock?

"Taka, where's Simba?"

He was silent. He looked as if he wanted to say something, and yet nothing was coming out. How could he tell her?

"Taka, where is Simba?"

"Sarabi," he started, his tears starting to flow, and it was then that she understood.

"No, no you must be wrong."

"Sarabi, I'm sorry."

The queen of the Pridelands buried her head into Scar's mane, both of their tears now freely flowing.

"This is my fault," he said, "I told Mufasa to open up negotiations with the hyenas. And for what? They killed them, they killed my brother, they killed Simba!"

Scar was the king now, and he would make sure Sarabi was his queen. The pain would go away, that's what his mother had told him after their father had died, but now he wasn't too sure. The only thing that he knew for a fact was now what they did was no longer treason, and no longer did they have to silently fear for their lives, but at what cost?

"He's gone..." Sarabi choked out, shivering now as she moved even closer to Scar.

"He's gone," Scar repeated, trying to believe it himself.

"He's gone..."

Here we have a bunch of information thrown at you that goes against canon and might not make any sense to you all. :3 Don't worry, it'll all be explained either in pictures like these or in the comic.
