Description
She sits alone on a piano chair
   Staring blankly out the window in front of her
      Fingers positioned over the ancient keys
         But not a single note she plays

She watches passers-by and reaches out a pale, trembling hand
   Longing for just a drop of Love’s nectar to touch her lips
      But no one hears her whispered cries, and no one sees
         The frightened little girl that’s trapped beneath the skin

He sits down to dinner made for three
   He made too much again
      For she’s not coming
         And he doubts she ever will

A child tugs at his pant leg, asking where his mommy is
    And when his father replies with the same answer as countless nights
     before
      The child merely hangs his head and asks, "Why, daddy?"
         The father shakes his head as he tries to hold back the tears. He
          doesn’t know.

Another Man stands alone on a rugged hill
   And He sees them, feels their pain, reaches to wipe their tears
      His heart longs to do nothing but embrace them
         But the price has to be paid to bridge the gap that they made,
          tearing themselves away in prideful ignorance.

So He walks up the hill and stretches out His hands
   On planks of wood that were built for ships, for shelves...for anything
    but this.
      And willingly He lays down His life if only to be close to them...

                    If only to be close to you.
