In reading what you are concerned about CiaraMcAvoy (from the earlier critique) as the artist I feel you have achieved this, though I don't see the "devilish smile" on Erik you mentioned. There where quite a few shots of him smiling in the movie you could have drawn from considering that's what you where going for. I also question the need for the coin and arm in the center. Was there an artistic reason for this?
The scene at the bottom I feel would be enough to show Magneto's powers, seems as though there is an overpowering of focus on Eric?
This is an excellent likeness of the characters.
Considering this was done using oil paint, impressive color and brushwork. What is this painted on?

Wow, I have lost count of the number of portraits I have seen which just do not look like their subjects but I recognised these two instantly! Also, the colours are absolutely amazing, I genuinely had to look hard to see if this was a photograph or not. As to the composition, well, that too is amazing. The use of the movie's stylised X symbol sets the tone perfectly and having Magneto's hand in front of the X while both his and Xavier's head are behind lends a real sense of depth. Underneath this, in slightly less detail so as not to detract from the main focus of the picture, is a terrific drawing of possibly the most awe-inspiring part of the movie, when Magneto draws the submarine out of the water. The perspective is terrific with this scene, especially so with the sub as it seems to leap out of the page, and the fact that it and the little Magneto's head overlap the circle of the X symbol again adds more depth. Absolutely amazing work.

To me, the two central figures as the key to the story. They understand each other but find themselves at odds, and that is the nature of good and evil. It is never completely black and white. Xavier looks dark and serious and Erik has slight, yet perhaps, devilish smile. The scene at the bottom is of course the culmination of the training lavished by Xavier on his most powerful student and friend and represents the moment where there is no going back. While it isn't a spoiler, it does live in the minds of the fans as a tragic moment, and a shift that throws them forever out of balance.
I wanted to express that as well as the intensity of both charactersβ¦. I always hope and strive to achieve a connection between the viewer and the art, and here it is the connection we all feel to the struggle we all one day face between the best and most reptilian parts of ourselves.

Well, I would say that you achieved all that splendidly, though I have to say that I never saw the sub bit as a tragedy, I always felt the split happened in the reactor, when Magneto killed Shaw.

I agree with you on that but it would have been tragic if Professor X did apply his superhuman βmind forceβ to make Magneto drop the 26,000-ton heap of metal. That could have been ugly for someoneβs toes.
