Squall unlike his younger brother can be quite difficult due to his lack of trust in others. He is weary of strangers and their motives, however if anyone does manage to befriend him he will be incredibly protective and loyal toward them, and open up more about his emotions.
Due to his lack of education he can come off as quite stupid as he knows no better, and will often be confused by even the simplest of things. He will become angered or upset should someone berate him for his lack of knowledge rather than just telling him what he needs to know. He was never taught how to read or write, and hasn't had the chance to attempt teaching himself.

For the most part Squall comes off as cold and uncaring, a lot of the time he really doesn't care about others as he has his own problems and doesn't have the energy to help another when he can barely help himself. Not that anyone talks to nor goes near the tattered man.

BACKSTORY

[Summarized]

Born during Ryker's reign along with his younger brother [Zephyr], his mother was taken away and father killed while he and his brother were hidden in a secret compartment under the floor. As the soldiers left their home they set it ablaze, the two boys too scared to move stayed hidden as the house burnt down around them, and buried them beneath the rubble. It took the two of them three days to dig themselves out.
Squall and his brother [Zephyr] only had one another to rely on, causing the two to become incredibly close. They traveled from what was left of their home and come across a run down town that had been left to rot, hiding within the town they discovered other proto RohKuh. Many of these other Roh were much older than the boys, and quite a lot of them had been wounded as they fled Ryker's reign. But regardless of age and injury everyone had to carry their own weight and work as hard as one another. The boys had to grow up fast, there was no time to cater to the needs of a child.

The two remained in the small town for many years until a proto that had been taken in betrayed the rest and alerted Ryker's soldiers of their location. The town was attacked, those who were not killed on the spot and skull crushed were taken, however the brothers managed to escape in the confusion as several Proto went into their Ascendance.

The betrayal of one of their own would scar Squall greatly and lead to his unwillingness to trust in any one but himself and his brother.

Squall and Zephyr remained on the run on Numani for 100's of years before finally being taught how to world hop and a planet that was safe from Ryker's rule. On the new planet they were captured by Roh slavers who tried to break them, but in the end they failed as the brothers escaped. But soon after Squall would lose his brother in a fight against another RohKuh, and be unable to locate his skull that had fallen from a cliff.

Squall was now alone.

Squall managed on his own for a good 30 years before he was captured once again, the unruly man killed so that he may be reborn and trained as an obedient slave. However he never lost his fighting spirit, leading to his death a further 4 times before his master had enough and gave him off to another. Under new ownership he was raised once again as a slave, and attempts were made at a very young age to break and train the boy, but his fire within still burnt just as bright as his previously lives, he could not be broken. But this Master seemed to take pleasure in his disobedient and rebellious nature.

Squall made the mistake in falling for another slave, with all the hardship both had shared they quickly grew close to one another and Squall was able to trust for the first time since the loss of his brother. The two would sneak away whenever they could in order to be together, though they never had much time together they soon became sexual with one another. So one night they took a risk they would live to regret. Thinking everyone was asleep the two met at their private location and within minutes both were fully undressed with one on top of the other in coitus. However their private location wasn't as private as they had thought, being found by their Master and a couple of his personal soldiers. Their Master had them dragged apart where he then personally mutilated their genitalia with a blade engulfed in RohKuh fire, each cut was deliberately slow and messy to make sure there would be scaring. At least half of Squall's penis was removed in the process. After which his Penis, Scrotum and the inside of his thighs were left horribly scared and Squall never saw the other slave again.
