Sad story! I would hope that zoo administrators took note. Maybe the animal wasn't as important to them as it should have been. A seventeen year old wolf certainly there should have been a little care...water perhaps in a pool for keeping cool in 90+ degree heat!

They have lots of trees for shade and the pool had been like that for the past 6 or 7 years. It was just an accident. And he is very missed. This mate is still there and they have fill the pool in with hay so nothing happens to her.

Lack of response? No significant changes in the way they care for an aging animal. Sorry. I Just get upset about that stuff.

They did change things, they fill in the pool so it could not happen again. The wolfs are to old to swim anymore. The they have it set up so they don't have to be outside only if they want to be. They also have a place when she can me outside and no one can see her. It was set up like this for them years ago. I got picture of the female yesterday and she is looking very good for being so old. It was the first time I have seen her out in the public area in the last 2 or 3 times I have been there. In the wild she would of been dead years ago.

Ok. I guess that I totally missunderstood. I really love animals and even after I stopped working directly with them, I am extreemly protective of them. Besides, I've always ben crazy about wolves.

You know what really sucks Martin, This wolf died back in like June. My daughter found out when she went to the zoo. Check out the edit I did in the description.

I guess there was no water in it because they were too old to play in it anymore. Since he died they filled the pool with hay so she wouldn't get hurt.

Yes he does and I think he got tired of my daugher and I taking his picture. As he went over to the fence and grab a small tree trunk about 2" around and bit it in half. Then gave me a look like I could do this to you too. lol Kind of scary.
