Description So, after about a year or so I decided to finish up that gigantor flying carrier I started a while back (WIP's in scraps). Obviously, I still haven't textured it - I wanted to wait and see if anyone had any suggestions (I've never been good with color). Also, I wanted to know if anyone had any ideas for extra details I could add (if you think they are necessary - I'm concerned that the level of detail is nearing the limits of my computer, and I'm afraid that if I make one thing too detailed it will look lame if the rest of it is not at that same level of detail). Still, some of the surfaces look unnaturally blank and my mind is equally blank trying to think up of stuff to fill them in with. Any suggestions for both textures and additional details would be much appreciated.

As for the model itself, I can only say I tried to be as realistic when it came to including various elements (i.e. arrester wires on the runways, turrets that cover the full 360 degrees around the ship, etc.)

And, here are the labels for the different views (because I was too lazy to text them in Photoshop...)
(top to bottom)
1. Top view
2. Starboard side elevation
3. Front, Back
4. View looking into front, showing flight decks and catapults (for launching airplanes and such)
5. View of back, showing landing strips, arrester wires, landing lights and various AA and mixed-use turrets.
6. View of bottom showing armor plating, air intake and gimbaled thruster (the thing sticking out the side) for maneuvering.
7. Close-up of front showing flight decks, other various platforms, radar mast and air/ground traffic control bridges.
8. Close-up of main bridge/residence element with radio antenna, AA guns and smokestacks.

Enjoy! Again, critique much appreciated.

God I would love to see this skinned, hell, I would love being able to toy around with skins for it, but on such a massive model I think you are going to have to stay fairly basic, which since you have already gone relatively realistic makes sense.

As far as color goes, I would say you either go with a color scheme of a traditional seafaring carrier, or you go with something that would serve to hide it but with the variable colors that you can find in the sky, and the massive size of the ship, such a design doesn't sound that practical.

That's a good idea - maybe like a WWII-era ship camouflage scheme? ([link] )

-Something like that? I think that might work well...it would also be easy to do, as my photoshop skills are somewhat limited.

Yea something along those lines would probably look pretty decent, and if I remember right you can always add more textures to different spots to add more detail.

oh my! how wonderful! the detail is excellent, it really looks like you thought this model out don't really have any critique, it's just so massive it's hard to captivate. are they all sepparate meshes? you might you begin with coloring pieces of the ship, giving them obvious colors is not a bad thing, and see where you want to put extra texture detail

I may do that. Currently, most of the elements are separate meshes, but before I map it I'm going to consolidate some elements just to make it easier on myself and also to make it friendlier in case I decide to animate it eventually. But, I kinda want to start a new project, so I don't know when I'll get around to doing that.

excellent design, Claevius. very original.

Thank you. It is a flying aircraft carrier - somewhat redundant, I know, but where's the fun in pragmatism? Sometime I should probably make the actual airplanes or whatever that would be taking off from it.
