I promised myself I wasn't going to join any more groups, especially cat groups, but... here we are.

Wiiiith another cat with impossible-to-replicate patterns.

Also, they're currently closed to apprentices, but I hope that enough warriors will be made for me to be able to join with him. If not, I guess I'll join with a warrior, but I've never had an apprentice before, so I hope I can use him!

( = ) Alert/Cautious: Ashenpaw's demeanor is generally not an outgoing or lazy one. He's often on guard and vigilant, and doesn't charge in to danger. This keeps him and others safe, but on the other hand, it can make it hard for him to make friends. Not only is he cautious of his surroundings, he's also cautious of others, as he knows that not every cat has a heart of gold. This leads him to sometimes misjudge others or scare them away, even if they are friendly.

( = ) Quiet: He's not really one to argue or to even speak his mind at times, terrified of saying the wrong thing and sounding stupid. At times, he has said something and been reprimanded, and he's very afraid of being proven wrong or treated as though he was stupid. In his opinion, you can't say something wrong if you don't say anything. Not only that, but he likes listening to others talk, and so he's content to let them lead the conversation.

Once upon a time, there was a Shadowclan warrior by the name of Inkmaze. His history was unclear, but he was a purebred Bengal, light with dark, intricate patterns on his fur, giving him his name. Whatever his lineage, he was of Shadowclan, and green twisted talons glowed on his chest. He was a haughty warrior, skilled in battle, but headstrong and insolent. He was viewed as irresponsible and rude by the elder warriors, and never had a particularly good reputation. This didn't bother the proud Inkmaze, though. And while the senior warriors and even some warriors his age warned him that his attitude was bad news and he'd never get a mate, his bad-boy attitude ended up attracting another.

Her name was Icesong, and she was beautiful. Her pelt and vividly blue eyes spoke of her Javanese lineage, but her light stripes showed that other breeds mingled in her blood. She scorned the honest, hardworking warriors that tried to attract her attention, and in the end, her attitude ended up driving most of them away, as was the case of Inkmaze. The first time she saw the warrior, she knew he was the right type for her. Inkmaze didn't care for her irritating personality, but the fact that such a lovely cat had eyes on him was quite enough to drive him to court her.

Things go as things go, and come autumn, the two were official mates. Icesong never wanted children, but she knew that the result of having a mate was kits. So she readied herself, and was unsurprised (Though rather annoyed) at her growing belly. During that time, however, Inkmaze was scratched on the forehead, and got an infection. The infection spread as a result of his own foolishness, as he refused to go to the medicine cat on account of wanting a cool scar. He regretted that action, though, when the infection spread to his eyes, and eventually took his sight from them. Icesong was disgusted, because the scars and bald patches that stretched around his sightless eyes were horrifying, and he was no longer as rambunctious as he used to be. And there she was, stuck in the nursery with a litter of kits that was soon to be born. She became withdrawn, refusing to talk to Inkmaze.

When at last the day came that the kits would arrive, she was frustrated and angry, and the pregnancy was not easy. When she lay exhausted on the moss, she turned to see two tiny, wet, pathetic looking kits. It filled her with unspeakable anger. For some reason, she'd been expecting the adorable, fluffy little things, not the wet lumps of skin in front of her. Icesong had practically no motherly instinct. The medicine cat had to teach her how to feed them, and he had to lick them clean for her.

Kithood

Meanwhile, Inkmaze was the one who had wanted the kits. Inkmaze wasn't soft for anyone, except young kits, and one of his only dreams had been raising some for himself. Icesong refused to let him near her offspring, and due to his blindness, he could never see them. He fell in to a deep depression, and moved to the elder's den. Icesong named the elder kit Ashenkit, for his pale fur, and the other Shardkit, because at the time, he looked more like her old mate, the one who had put her in the situation and, as it seemed to her, broken her life in to shards.

As soon as the kits were old enough to eat solid food, Icesong was barely ever in the nursery. Ashenkit and Shardkit had to entertain themselves, and never really knew the warm caress of a loving mother. Nonetheless, they had eachother, though it soon became apparent that they had very different personalities. Nonetheless, they grew in to adolescents, and eventually began to train.

ROLEPLAY EXAMPLE:

The ferns parted as the pale apprentice slid through the undergrowth. This part of the territory was particularly forested, which made it more difficult to catch prey. However, the squirrel he'd been chasing had seen fit to escape to this grassy area. The grass tickled his nose, laced with the tantalizing scent of a young squirrel.

The grass was sparser up ahead, and the squirrel was on the ground, a pine nut clamped in it's jaws. It was trying to fit the nut in to it's cheek, and evidently having trouble. As it scratched at it, Ashenpaw shifted his legs, preparing to leap. Just as he did, it fit the nut, and looked up to see him moments away.

Ashenpaw straightened up, the creature clenched in his jaws. It was fat, and would do well feeding the elders. And hopefully his mentor would be proud of him.
