Ah I see it on amazon & it says its based on a manga. But the cheapest is like $50, why so expensive - it's just a wind-up toy isn't it?

yeah it's a character from an anime/manga 'Yotsuba&!'
while i haven't seen it myself, the character just looks cool, which draws people, plus it's a cool figure to photograph.
it's expensive cause it has lighting in it's eyes, it's rotating body parts are good quality compared to what you would find in dolls and stuff, it's also branding of the cartoon, plus it's a japanese figure, which normally cost a lot.
also i got him from ebay, for $30 odd US, with $10-15 shipping cost.

Yeah much cheaper on ebay but I probably won't be getting it cuz it still seems too expensive to me. Gotta admit it though, he is very photogenic - cute shot.

it is quite expensive regardless, but like you said, he's very photogenic, and if you're into photography enough i believe it's a good investment.
