I'm glad I read Kansbar's comment, because that helped me to look again and again at this picture. The numerous smaller details, like the vibrating string, the stray line, and the brilliant attention to detail on the light sourcing is not something to be overlooked.
But, I do agree with him (though my style in anime influenced), what I would really like to see is your colour skills applied to something other than anime style. That could be a very interesting combination.
Truly, the digital painting in this piece is quite stunning. I can almost hear the violin playing. Keep it up, definitely!

See I didin't even notice the vibrations on the e string. those are the natural, seemingly insignificant yet so incredibly important details that people who do anime miss. Anime shouldn't be about drawing a style thats per-say easier, but manipulating a style with the artists own take on it, and giving it a unique light, there is good anime, anime that is unique.

Well, all things considered, although I must admit my perception of anime is not a flattering one, you are far better than most of the people that pretend to do it. You see the most striking thing about this piece is the stray piece of violin string hanging down, that small bit of realism makes the piece valid. Even though its anime. The arms are visually confusing but only to someone whose looking at it with an anatomical eye, your composition is also... superb, the light coming from the left diagonal, follows the violin whilst its intersected by the bow making a great "X" composition. Anime is hard to judge, I'd rather see something original but for someone who does anime you've at least done it right, the plethora of bad anime on deviant art gives you guys a bad name. Because if you include the elements of good compositional choices and value structure, a good piece of art, is a good piece of art,

Honestly, I was expecting something more scathing, but thanks for the compliments nonetheless.
I realize that it's very anatomically incorrect; I've been playing violin myself and the first time I picked up a bow and tried to hold the violin, the positions felt very alien to me, and the first time I'm drawing a pose like this, the feeling of uneasiness is comparable.

haha, what did you want to be abused? If you want some anti-manga tirade I can do that, but I see no reason and hating on anyone who does art no matter what it is. Anime is craft, not art. Thats doesn't mean its bad.

I don't know, honestly. xD That's why I wanted to get owned more.
I knew that my anatomy was flawed; I'm not at all happy with the hand holding the neck of the violin, and I was expecting to get burned for my lack of detail on the dress and violin.
That's not to say that the critique wasn't useful; you told me what I was doing right. I didn't realize that the broken hair on the bow was all that important; I valued it just as much as I valued the other minuscule details I put in, like the shadows of the strings, or the slight motion blur I put on the E string to show that she was playing it.
Though, like I said, people who dislike anime will be more willing to say "your anatomy stinks" than people who like anime and will critique more on the style than the basics.
