This has been some sort of an adventure for me.I don't even know if i posted the original sketch on here. I don't think I did.
I drew this picture in august 2008.
Since then I have been working on this off and on, lost it, found it, and again started working on it off and on.
This picture has gone through (and you might be able to find them) 3 coloring styles of mine. One before I was shown the magic of pressure sensitivity. There are parts that I've worked on a lot more than others. There are parts that could look amazing without lineart and others that can't do without it.
In the end, I really enjoyed doing this... morbid picture.
The actual drawing has meaning to me and it is a personal one (which surprisingly enough isn't anything near the drawing). Somewhere between the start and end of this, the picture became some sort of a stubborn drive where I had put just enough effort in that if I didn't finish it, it would have driven me crazy.
I will say I respect the picture, even if I don't like it as much as some of my others. Maybe I'm too close to it now.
Anyway.
Enjoy my hard labor on this.

I'm having the hardest time finding words to describe my reaction to this. First off, I'm blown away by the amazing detail and color. The feathers look so tangible, and the barbed wire dos NOT look like something I want to touch! The detail of the foot is fantastic, and the blood looks totally natural. The duck's anatomy is flawless, I especially love its head.
The concept is tragically beautiful. The idea combined with the detail took my breath away with one glance. The colors add to the powerful and sorrowful mood the piece gives off, and I also like the basic composition. The empty space at the top make me feel like its really hanging, as though from a noose.

and first off I'd like to say thank you.
I debated for a while about whether or not I wanted to attach the barbed wire to a wooden fence and have it hang from that but I liked how the barbed wire lingered up.
Do you think next time I should try to put a background to add to the picture?

Actually I think a background might make this too busy. The pale darkness and empty space has a mysterious charm about it that draws more attention to the details of this piece. You could put a background it to see how it goes though.

The only problem is that I stopped working on this and posted it because I have a feeling I would keep working on it until it drove me crazy. lol
I might try that over the summer though when I'll already have gone insane from nothing to do.

There aren't actually words to describe how amazing this is.
I won't say I absolutely love it because the injured bird makes me sad, but the fact that it makes me sad should be proof of how well drawn and realsitic it is.

Yeah I had trouble writing things in the comments about this picture because I really wanted to say that I loved how it came out, but the fact that the bird is kinda bleeding and tangled made me think that was inappropriate. As well as saying I had fun drawing it. It's something like a stubborn respect for it right now with me. lol

The little feathers develop so well into the larger ones...The shading on the face and body is really strong. I love how the foot came out, and how the wing juts forward..gyah I love it all.
