It's YOSHI!!!
This is probably the happiest drawing I've ever worked on! I wanted to do something that was pure fun, and required less pressure than my realism or painting work. It's been a while since I've done any cartoons.
Everything about the Mario World is so bright and cheery (despite the ridiculous lengths Mario goes through to save Peach), so it felt like a good choice. I grew up on Nintendo and still play Nintendo games to this very day. I really love spending time on my 3DS and trying out the new Wii U. I recently played the "New Super Mario Bros. U", which is pretty damn fantastic, and inspired me to do some Yoshi fan art. However, nothing brings me nostalgia quite like "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island"! It was my absolute favorite game on the SNES console!
The whole drawing and background is based on Yoshi's Island's game design. The artwork just fascinated me as a kid, and still does!
Done with Prismacolor pencils on a piece of toned tan sketching paper.
