Foe is attacked with a shock wave. It may also leave the target paralyzed (30%).

Ross is a good fighter, dodging oncoming attacks and countering with steady kicks. He’s decently tough and able to take a hit, which is good since he's not very defensive. He constantly trains himself to become stronger since he grew up in a fighting dojo, but because of that, he’s got little experience with special moves and thus little special defense.
Personality
"Don't Worry; I got it!"
Nature / Characteristic: Bold/ Likes to Run
+ Friendly | Genuine | Curious | Determined
- Short Sighted | Impatient | Self-conscious
Ross is driven little fella looking for a reason to explore and help out as much as he can. He enjoys meeting new people and seeing new places, making him excellent explorer material. He is a very in-the-moment sort of person which makes him pretty focused; however it also makes it difficult for him to plan ahead. Ross is impatient, wanting things to happen or see progress as soon as possible. He can be quick thinking, but his lack of patience sometimes gets him into trouble despite his good intentions. Due to his mother being a strict, push-you-to-your-limits kind of person, Ross learned very early to work hard and put his all into whatever her does. Ross is never half hearted. He’ll put lots of effort and energy into the tasks he’s given. If you tell him he can’t do it, he’ll try even harder even if he actually can’t, especially if he feels it's something he could do (“You shouldn't do that; you'll hurt yourself.” “What are you talking about? I can handle it.”).
Ross has something to prove. Many people underestimate him because he's missing an arm, and he loathes that. Sometimes he overcompensates for the fact he’s lacking a limb by overexerting himself. Although he admits he needs some help every once in a while, he feels he can do things on his own just as well as anyone else. Usually he brushes off his limitations and refuses help until its indisputable he can’t do something alone.

(TL;DR Ross was raised and trained at his mother’s dojo, which he enjoyed for a long time. He later grew frustrated that there were moves he was not allowed to practice and tried to prove himself by challenging his mom, Kouri. She beat him easily, and Ross’s new frustration in his lack of strength lead him to try climbing Mt. Loss. He got in a fight with a feral steelix and lost half his arm in the process. After dealing with a period of disappointment and adjustment, he resolved to prove he could still be strong and left to become an Explorer against the wishes of his mom.)
Early Years
Ross was born and raised by his parents at his mother dojo, the Kouri Dojo, in a village called Dune Pass. His parents decided to make the most of an arranged marriage and a clever trick, so they cared for him very much. He was taught battling as soon as he could muster a kick and often learned with Curtis's other students. Though harsh and strict, Curtis pushed her son and her students to constantly better themselves and made sure there was no slacking off, teaching Ross to become hardworking and focused.
Despite fearing his mother’s wrath and being much younger than everyone else, occasionally Ross would do things he wasn’t allowed to do; skipping out on chores to practice advanced moves he’d probably hurt himself with or running off to explore unsupervised and then getting lost on the way back. He dreamed of seeing the world one day and then coming back to take over the dojo afterwards, but for now he was mostly content with his life; training with students, finishing chores, and sneaking away when he could.
A Turning Point
One day when Ross was about 14, Curtis caught Ross skipping class and practicing a move too advanced for him again, so she scolded him severely. This time, Ross challenged her to a duel to try and show her that he could do more than she allowed. Curtis, not being one to hold back, absolutely pummeled him and reiterated her rules. Frustrated by his lack of strength, Ross decided the only way to prove he was ready to do more was to climb Mt. Loss, one of the harder trials that Curtis’s advanced students took on. He snuck away in the middle of the night and stowed away on a ship to get there. Shortly after climbing his way up, however, his endeavor went south very quickly when he met a territorial feral steelix. Despite Ross’s efforts to fight, the steelix was far stronger than him, and it knocked him down the side of a cliff with a rock slide. The rocks pinned Ross down by the arm; he was injured and trapped.
This was it, he thought. He was going to die here; defeated, in pain, and stuck under a rock. No one knew where he was because he snuck away. What would they say about him? Would they think of him fondly? Or angrily? Would they ever find his body? The riolu pondered his end all day, but luckily for him, Curits, Raymond, and a search team miraculously managed to find him. It was one of the rare times Curtis was tender with him (though she scolded him later). Smashing the rock was no problem, but since the rock had entirely crushed Ross’s left forearm, it needed to be amputated.
After such a failure, Ross became discouraged with his new disability, and it took him a while to adjust. How he took having two hands for granted! Even simply carrying things became an arduous annoying task. Ross’s father Raymond was very supportive during this time, but Ross and Curtis’s relationship became strained due to her abrasive personality and disdain for self-pity. Curtis also enforced more limitations than before. Ross could only train a certain amount of hours a day until his injuries healed, he was constantly supervised, and in his eyes, everyone treated him like a toddler. Everything was frustrating, especially training as his previous fighting style was far less effective with only one hand. If only he had been stronger… What was he supposed to do now?
No. He wasn't done yet. He can still be stronger; he just had to work even harder than before. Raymond helped Ross change his fighting style and learned he could teach Ross how to use Flame Kick. Ross rededicated himself to proving to everyone he could be strong.
The Disaster
Life took a pretty sharp turn when the Disaster hit September 1915, catching everyone off guard. Suddenly, gods that some thought didn’t even exist zoomed around and fought in the sky, raining down meteors and swelling the waves and throwing nature out of balance. The dojo sustained substantial damage due to meteor showers and earthquakes, and the surrounding area’s feral pokemon became even more aggressive than before. Many were injured, and though there were no immediate casualties, people were missing. Once the gods disappeared and things calmed down, some students began repairing structures and helping injured in Dune Pass, but many others left worried about their homes and families.
It didn’t take long before someone came with news of these strange Mystery Dungeons and the Guilds restarting, just like something out of a story book. This was his chance! A new start, a fresh reputation, a chance to explore and help and prove. But despite her offering to train new explorers from the Dusty Village Guild, Curtis forbade Ross from becoming one. When Ross protested, Kouri moved to hit him but stopped just short of the riolu’s block. She very sternly reiterated her authority and left him there, the first time Ross had ever seen Curtis hold back.
Present
With the coming of new students from the Dusty Village Guild and a silent tension rising between him and Curtis, Ross’s desire to become an explorer only grew. He decided that he would become an explorer, whether Curtis wanted him to be or not. He decided to sneak away, something he hadn’t done in nearly 6 years, but he was caught by his father. Raymond, however, thought Ross should go. Ross had grown up after all; he had to make his own decisions and learn to live with whatever they brought. Raymond helped Ross leave with supplies and the knowledge of the Everstone guild. At this point, people have heard the Kouri name in both the Dusty Village Guild and the Tincaster Guild; Curtis would track Ross down and drag him back before he ever had a chance if he joined a Guild in Ruby. It just so happens that the Everstone Guild put out a specific call to action to repair the world; they’d need a lot of help with that. So Ross made his way across the desert and the ocean to find his chance in Everstone City!

Fun Facts:
Physical: Ross has small extra markings on his fingers, and tail. His hair color stems from his father’s species, Hitmonlee. He also has taller ears.
Though he's gotten one or two letters from them, Ross has never met his grandparents on his mother's side.
Curtis comes from a family of dojo masters steeped in old tradition. She wanted to be a dojo master herself, but traditionally that was only for males. Being female, there was no way she'd inherit a dojo. When she came of age that tradition said she should be married, her parents found it to difficult to pair her with another dojo family due to Curtis being difficult. Tthey wound up arranging one with Raymond, the son of a respected carpenter who was reasonably strong enough and well versed enough in martial arts to become a dojo master. Though with Curtis being clever and Raymond being cooperative, Curtis made a plan with Raymond so that the newly created dojo would be in Curtis's name, and no one realized until after ceremonies had been done. Curtis got her dojo and Raymod gets to be a teacher along side her which he's super cool with. Her parent of course are not cool with it, and Curtis is estranged from her family as Curtis's reputation is too good for her to be disowned entirely. She did let them know when Ross was born.
Curtis is the dojo master, so when people say "Master Kouri", they refer to her. She specializes in the physical side of fighting. Raymond assists, but he meditates often and focuses in the spiritual side of martial arts. Ross has no siblings. He has a good relationship with his grandparents on his dad’s side who live in Dusty Village. Raymond had gone to check on them and take care of them about a week after the Disaster. They survived , though Esteban had a broken leg and their house needed several repairs. Curtis unfortunately does not know about her parents because she's estranged and all of them are too stubborn to break the silence.
Both parents value the pursuit of knowledge and thus Ross was home schooled.
Ross likes food, open spaces, and sparing. He dislikes sitting still too long, naysayers, and the taste of medicine.
Ross fears rock slides and falling boulders. He also fears being alone for too long, but would never admit that.
Ross can find his way in small areas and scout the immediate area, but he can get lost pretty quickly without directions. It’s very fortunate he met people along the way from Dune Pass to help point the right direction to Everstone.
Ross is not very in touch with his aura capabilities as a riolu, and as a fighter he’s never tried to actively use them. However, he’s still decently empathetic as even with little experience he can still sense baseline emotions.
Post Joining Everstone Guild:
He’s been out of Dune Pass before, to Dusty Village and some other small port towns on the coast, but nowhere beyond that. He’s very impressed by the city even in its damaged state.
Ross does not like the snow and the cold; he's not looking forward to any missions on Diamond Island.
Ross made friends with a local named Walter. He very much likes going over to Walter's house because Walter always has snacks; cookies and coffee cakes and pretzels. It changes and Ross appreciates it.
In the dungeon near Strident, Ross discovered he's claustrophobic. He also understandably fears onix (a "pre" steelix) as evidenced by the Blue Fog, but of course he won't admit it.
