‘Ravensdale’ is the name of this settlement, but I never gave a name to the planet itself, as it was never relevant. The planet’s atmosphere is acceptably Earth-like, but the surface is generally considered uninhabitable; a highly elliptical orbit around its parent star causes temperatures to drop below -40 Celsius in the winter, and to climb to over 60 Celsius in the Summer, and the severity of seasonal duststorms can rival those of Elysia. These conditions, as well as the general scarcity of surface water, have made it an unattractive destination for permanent humanoid colonization of any type. However, private mining concerns have been able to turn some profit on the concentrations of heavy elements in the upper crust, which are too small for larger corporations to bother with. Mining colonies like Ravensdale are erected out of prefabricated components over promising ore veins, to be disassembled again when the vein is exhausted, and relocated using anti-gravity skycranes similar to

The surface of the planet is almost entirely covered in packed dust, which can reach depths of over 500 meters in valleys. Due to the winds and the infirm ground, any artificial structure left unmaintained for more than a decade will sink, and become entirely buried in this dust. Ravensdale avoided this fate by using high-powered microwave lasers to fuse its foundations into glass, and a well-maintained array of excavation tractor beams to prevent being covered. Apparently, many eons ago, a horseshoe-shaped spacecraft crashed in this location, and was not so well prepared.

In any case, this comic takes place in mid Spring, when the temperature is mild. A storm is brewing.
