Beka looked at the time slotted for Elati’s Korung and winced, late morning, the cat would not be happy. She was still not used to having to get up three hours earlier to start with. She would have to do her best to sooth the shedu. She spent the day before the judging prepping her Ela, grooming her until her coat shone. She would groom the cat again in the morning since it always calmed her town to be pampered so.

The next morning Ela growled and grumbled the entire time it took Beka to get her up and prepared for the contest. The norming was bright and clear with only a few clouds slowly moving across the sky. It was a beautiful day. A few treats got the shedu to accept the grooming and halter.

When their name was called Beka lead the cat into the ring for the obedience and gait evaluations. Beka was glad she and Ela had trained so much to smooth out the movements, her head stayed still as her feet seemed to float as she trotted next to the jogging young woman. With a small smile at the shedu’s cooperation with the run and obedience, she deserved the treat she was given as they progressed to the Conformation check.

By the end of the Korung, Beka was very pleased with her shedu. “Good girl,” she said hugging the cat’s neck and giving her head and jaw an affectionate rub. Ela began a deep purr that rumbled through the young woman. Leading the shedu back to the rooms they had been given, Beka changed into her swimming suit and led the cat to the beach. Ela loved swimming in the ocean better than swimming in the lake back in Wyoming, so it was a fitting reward for her good behavior.
